Welcome to 1983. Prince is one of the most underrated lead guitarists in music. I think the electronic aspect of his catalog overshadowed his solid work on the six string.

Also, that's Dhani Harrison on 12 string back there. Looks like George. A lot.

Miss you, George.

My second guitar teacher was a euro death metal chick. I asked who her favorite guitar player was and she told me it was Prince. I was like WTF? Took a while for me to realize he was indeed a killer player.

Never liked his "I am better than you" attitude, but I do like Purple Rain the movie and the album and do think he is a hell of a guitar player.

I had no idea that he was. Well - I learned my one new thing for the day

Was that Sean Lennon's group? (He looked like the guy with the hair and the beard.)

I saw him live (he opened for Rufus Wainwright a few years ago) and his original stuff is really weird.

Good solo, though :)

Prince has always been a phenomenal guitarists. He is also a phenomenal every instrumentplayer. And usually plays everything on his albums.

I recognize Tom Petty. Is the other singer with the beard Eric Clapton?

I know Prince is a talented guitarist, but (and I know I'm gonna sound snobby and probably get flamed) that particular solo was underwhelming for me. I haven't picked up a guitar in probably 3 months and I could likely bust a solo better than that.

Prince is a great guitarist. He tears it up pretty good on the Purple Rain Album here and there. He's got guitar style.

You know this is ATOT, I'm sure you have a recording device. You know the rules; make a claim like that, and put up or shut up.

"unexpected source"?? The only thing unexpected is that people on ATOT actually recognized that he has a lot of talent. I think his apparent ego, and perhaps choice of genre are what kept him from completely capitalizing on his talent. Not that he hasn't capitalized; he's just slightly less mainstream as a result though.

I like that challenge. Actually my recording workstation kinda got taken off-line when I upgraded my main PC a month ago or so. I had files I wanted to preserve but a shortage of computer cases, so I re-assembled my old PC into my recording workstation's case. This can be good motivation to finally transfer all the files I need, wipe my old machine, install Ubuntu-Studio and get the recording apparatus set up again.

I wonder if I can find a good backing track to the tune of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" ...

Always good to find the impetus to finish a project.

IMHO:

- Prince *is* a very good guitar player.

- Prince clearly has earned his place on that stage, and that (tasteful, expressive, and well controlled) solo is proof of that.

but...

- While he played it superbly, from a technical perspective he didn't do anything that was particularly difficult.
