One excercise that you should get a personal trainer for?

I received a $25 Gold's Gym gift certificate for xmas. (i have a membership.)
(i'll pay the difference for one session.)

i just do the machines (chest press, incline press, lat pulldown, row, leg press, etc).

What's the best excercise for a personal trainer to show you how to do?
Dead lift???

or Best way to use a personal trainer for 1 session?

I think squats would be the best exercise to learn how to do. With a personal trainer, they can help you with form and squats have many beneficial systemic effects.

Squat would be beneficial. But I hate all personal trainers and the way they reach form. But, you have to learn some how.

What is your current fitness level? Having them show you a single may not be the best use of your money. You may just spend it reviewing your program.....

If you do Cleans, definitely cleans.
Deadlift is good for form
If neither of those, then squats.

I would suggest going over your routine with them and have them offer suggestions on new exercises or new ways of doing things.

egads! get off those machines and hit the free weights / bodyweight stuff. (my apologies as that wasn't your original question, but come on man! :) )

I agree. It probably depends on your current level. If you are newer to lifting you should use it to have someone help you put together some nice solid routines to help meet your goals. Don't waste all your time on 1 thing if you aren't familiar with lifting and diet in general.

If you are already familiar with routines and lifting then I would personally pick deadlifts. I think that is probably the most potential for injury and also a lift that is a great overall body lift.

If you want to get serious about lifting, then have them show you good form for squat. The attitude and concentration needed for good form on that lift will extend into everything else you do in the gym, free weight or machine.

However, if you are going to get into the power rack and speed through without any focus, then your time would be better spent having the trainer give you a good overall workout regiment to add onto what you are doing now.

Unfortunately most people doing squats/deadlifts have form so terrible they are doing themselves a disservice with the lift.

I always annoys me for some reason when i see people with bad form. I always want to correct them on it, ut then I realise they probably wouldn't appreciate advice from shrimp like me. Then I figure, hey it's their back and body.

Agreed.

I see people attempting to do squats in my local gym with the worst form you could possibly imagine. :frown:

The kid said he has a gift certificate. If you shop around for 300 hours over 25 dollars, something is seriously wrong with you.
