Looks like guns aren't the only way to inflict multiple casualties.

SPRING - The Harris County Sheriff's Office said one person is dead after a stabbing at a local high school.

It happened around 7:10 a.m. Wednesday at Spring High School off I-45.
Authorities said the school's nurse called police saying as many as five patients had been stabbed. The sheriff's office has not confirmed the number of those injured; however, Life Flight airlifted a 16-year-old boy to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Am I the only one who sees the irony of there being a school shooting in Connecticut and a school stabbing in Texas?

11:00am: Press conference in progress.

Sheriff Adrian Garcia, Spring ISD Police Chief Victor Mitchell and Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Ralph Draper reports-

  • (2 students with minor injuries have been transported to Houston Northwest Medical Center, 1 student transported by helicopter to Memorial Herman Hospital and is currently in surgery, 1 17 Year Old student confirmed deceased)
  • 3 persons of interest have been detained and are in custody at the Harris County Investigative Headquarters
  • There is some information that the incident was gang-related, but that is still under investigation
  • School is still on lockdown. Students are in classroom safe with the staff.

Sorry situation. In the past, I've done some consulting at Spring. At the time, it seemed like a very nice school. Though, that was ten or twelve years ago...

More information is on the Houston reddit. Though, it seems pretty speculative.

Right guns are just more efficient at it, not the only way

What do you mean by the story proving? What is it trying to prove?

Many people would try to post stories like this to try to prove that "guns don't kill people, people kill people."

While that may be true, guns are definitely the cause of mass rampage killings - the same can't be said for knifes/cars/etc

I thought the spring area was an upper class area?

Dude, it's Houston. All areas suck.

Seriously though, the people that I knew (5-7 years ago) that went to Spring were idiots/stoners. I wouldn't say the greatest people went there, being so close to a major highway probably doesn't do too well for it either.

I have a feeling that the area is turning into the new Frondren/Greenspoint.

Yes, but it's impossible to stab 22 people to death in the span of minutes like what happened in Connecticut. So this story doesn't prove anything.

Its called a katana. Which is basically the "Assault Weapon" version of a knife.

Are you saying someone couldn't katana to death 22 kindergartners in a few minutes?

Spring has been declining in the past few years. More people are moving to Katy or Richmond/Rosenberg areas as that's where all the new housing is being built.

323 murders by rifles in 2011. 1,694 murders due to knives in 2011. Which one is more dangerous?

No. You know how I know? Because it has never happened. So stop coming up with bullshit scenarios.

School shootings were "bullshit scenarios" before Columbine.

Last year a Chinese man stabbed 22 kids with a kitchen knife. Can you imagine what he could have done with a sword?

Also this:
In one of the worst incidents, a man described as an unemployed, middle-aged doctor killed eight children with a knife in March 2010 to vent his anger over a thwarted romantic relationship.

Yes, but NOT ONE of those kids died. Just injuries.

And you think it would have been the same case with a sword? Also see the reference in the same article where a pissed off Doctor killed 8 kids with a knife.

But that's right, gun grabbers are perfectly fine with 8 kids dying so long as it wasn't done with a gun. I assure you Brady and MAIG would be completely silent on the issue, just like they are with all other stabbings.
