Watched the video again and it almost looks like the kid was 'swatted' given that there appeared to be no one else close by except the 911 caller, and please, nobody try and tell me that what he was doing looked threatening in any way.

Seems to be more than a bit similar to the guy who was shot in the store while holding a toy gun. Also after a 911 call talking about frightening people while the video shows nobody being scared of anything.

Cops roar in looking for trouble and an innocent dead person suddenly happens.

Watch the full video. Can't find it right now but it shows him standing on the sidewalk alone pointing it at random people as they pass by. The caller was sitting at the tables in the full video but left due to what the kid was doing.

The kid wasn't playing cops and robbers.

It seriously drives me fucking crazy that cops across the country don't have body cameras yet. I think it is the single most important thing we can have to improve policing in the country.

completely agree. but i'm really doubting it's going to ever happen (until shit really gets real)

because cops are above all of us and can't be bothered or have their "privacy," "violated."

we just have to wait a little longer for a few more kids to die, and then it will really start to heat up.

I saw the video I think on YouTube? About one frame per second and crap resolution with the car pulling up and a few frames later the kid is shot by a gazebo? If that is the only vid we have it's really crappy.

The quality is poor, but it provides useful data. For example, the police narrative omits the timeline and implies that the officers approached the child, asked him to raise his hands, and then shot him after he refused and reached for the gun. In reality, the child's hands appear to be near his midsection before the police car stops moving, and the officer kills him less than one second after opening the door.

The common theme among these shootings seems to be that the police rush in without assessing the situation, and then place themselves in tactically foolish positions where lethal force is their only option. A bit of restraint and thought would have almost certainly led to non-violent outcomes in this and the WalMart killing, even if the shootings were legally justified.

Another case of poorly trained cops. Who the fuck drives right up on someone who is reported to have a gun? These cops were fucking idiots, fake gun or not.

Did that video also show him throwing a snow ball on the side walk? That's the one I saw and he certainly didn't look threatening to me.

It really doesn't matter though, it's simply poor training by the police if they can't properly handle a situation like this.

Something I have noticed in this case, and many others, the veteran cop partner never fires a shot.

He was driving and on the opposite side of the car from the kid. He's not going to shoot from the driver's seat out the passenger door/window.

Apparently you were 'special' in that way as well.

Nice. Name-calling.

So in what way am I "special"?

In each of those photos, the kids appear to be playing with each other. That wasn't the case in this incident. He was pointing the gun at random strangers.

yep and you know in that locker room before the shift they're joking/betting on "cracking skulls." all fired up, getting off on it.. trading cell phone pictures of people they exploit and maim, carrying out personal grudges behind their badges..

you should watch the movie "wrong cops," it's funny, but kinda scary because of the sick things it portrays these cops doing behind the badge/in the line of duty.. it's on netflix i think, or used to be.

Yup, because a comedy is definitely an accurate representation of how cops act/behave. If you want to know how cops work undercover, check out 21 Jump Street.

i've got "friends," who are cops, actually a beat cop, and a narcotics detective, i know exactly how they act. they definitely "get off," on busting heads.

one of them's marriage was destroyed because of his attitude change from being on the force... his wife was a bit "liberal," and he just treated her like she was beneath him... i dont think she was having a good time...

I have a bunch of friends that are cops. While I know they get an adrenaline rush from being in a pursuit or going hands-on with someone, it's not the only thing they enjoy about the job.

And yes, I have seen that cops can have a twisted sense of humor, but considering some of the things they see each day, can you blame them?

Most cops are also Type-A personalities as you usually need someone that can take control of a situation. Having a cop with a passive personality will usually not work out. Unfortunately, Type-A's are usually more prone to divorce as well as being more controlling in their relationships.

And you dont think that this is probably the direct cause of this whole mess?

what do you think it is? black culture? you don't think black culture is actually the "effect?"

Black culture is the effect of what? Sorry. Not following you here...

- Merg

I dont know if you've ever really been around blacks, but most of the culture is inspired by the resistance to the corrupt judicial system and police brutality, or at least that's how i see it.

So do you think that possibly the aggressive black culture, is more of an effect of the aggressive police tactics? Or that the aggressive police tactics are an effect of the black culture?

America is exceptional. This is what happens when young kids try to emulate thug culture and gun culture. They look up to the rappers, drug dealers and hard asses. This kid was just doing what every kid does: Pick a hero and try to be like them. It got him killed. Not the cop's fault OR the kid's fault. This is a symptom of a sick country with too many guns and shitty thug culture.

Or maybe he wanted to be a cop.

ANyone over 50 remember the 1960's? More so 1964?
Vietnam war and all the Christmas boy toys were guns guns guns.
Every kid has a toy gun.
The toy to have that Christmas was a JOHNNY SEVEN.
Seven guns in one.
Thank God the police were not trigger happy back then.....

I owned a Johnny Seven OMA and with a doubt it did not look like any weapon that was available in the US at that time. Even with that being said parents reminded thei children not to point the weapon at others. I also don't remember anyone thinking it was okay to point one at a police officer.

Cops cautiously approach the 12 year old kid and say, hey kid, what are you doing, playing around? Hey, nice gun, can we see it just to make sure it's safe?

Yes, that's very likely what would have happened if he was white. But now there's potentially one less of them on "the welfare," so conservatives can celebrate and defend the popo. Can't think of any other reason why they would want to defend them. Maybe it's not about the economics and it's simply gratifying for them to see blacks being gunned down.

I assume you're talking about the serious TV show from 15 years ago and not the recent comedy movie remake series?

It does not even need to look like a real gun......just yesterday 2 Police officers were called to another park and a man approached them pointing a banana at them. The rookie officer drew his weapon and the senior officer shouted wait!! It`s a banana....damn almost getting shot because you pointed a banana at a cop..lol

It appears there's more to story than you want to portray. Dumbass was arrested.

That has no bearing on the fact that he would have been a deadman over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....over a banana.....
