"Double check that all your settings are on 5.1 (change it to 2.1 and then change it back to 5.1), check the game sound settings, check windows speaker configuration, try reinstalling your onboard sound drivers. "
- Tried this, I still receive the same issues 🙁

I guess I will take a look at the X Mystique card.

Just to confirm, with the X Mystique I can use the optical connection to send the signal to my receiver, and my receiver will see it as 5.1 surround sound, correct?

Yes.

You'll want to set it to PCM 2channel for music and movies though. It will send unaltered stereo to your receiver for music and send an AC3 stream when something is already encoded for DD.

In games you'll set it to DDL and it will create an AC3 stream for your receiver to decode.

What about when I am playing MP3 and stuff on my computer? Before, it sounded awesome when hooked into the Ext in.

uhhhh... I think I said set it to PCM stereo for music and movies.

It should sound better sending pure digital to your denon rather than onboard to your receiver's analog inputs too.

Yup. You can create a shortcut, and paste it somewhere handy.
The Ext. In. is best used with DAC's that are better the reciever's. Given the electrical noise in ANY computer, digital should be an improvement, as the final analog signal would come from the cleaner reciever.
The only difference between coax RF and optical is the optical cable doesn't transmit any RF noise from component to component. This may or may not be an issue for you.
If you want a serious improvement in sound quality, dump mp3 and go with FLAC. Garbage in, garbage out.
