Yes, the guy in charge of determining whether or not classified information is classified or released gets to clear people of wrongdoing when releasing information. A low level contract employee does not in fact get to determine whether or not classified information is classified or released. Thank god we don't have a system where he would.

Now if you want to talk about how the government abuses the classification system that's fine, (and I would likely substantially agree with you). There is simply no world in which someone like Snowden should be making that call though.

That is exactly what I am arguing. The abusing of the classification system in this country. One guy leaks information all the time, the other does the same. One gets to clear himself of breaking the law, the other is lucky a swarm of jets didn't bomb him.

I agree with the idea he needs to be held accountable for leaking this information. What I don't understand is how people think this guy needs to be taken out or be made an example for leaking information about the govt spying on its citizens. He afaik didn't leak anything we didn't already kind of know or believe, nor did he disclose truly secret classified information to foreign govts.

Its now up to any of us or Snowden to determine what is/is not constitutional.
It is not up to Snowden to determine what CLASSIFIED documents should be public knowledge.

Snowden leaked classified documents against America's interests which by definition is treason and he should pay for this crime.

So, ratting on the govt for violating the Constitution against US citizens is now "treason"?

I don't think so. Reporting a crime, even if it's the govt committing it, is not treason.

Anyone who has any idea knows his definition is bull. I refer others to Article 3 Section 3.

Treason is specifically limited in definition lest the authoritarian use it to cow the people.

contrast that with guardian news articles
-Revealed: how Microsoft handed the NSA access to encrypted messages
-Yahoo wants US surveillance court objections revealed
-Snowden: I never gave any information to Chinese or Russian governments
-Procedures used by NSA to target non-US persons: Exhibit A – full document

US media is just entertainment.
