I consider myself to be a pretty patient guy, but there's virtually no situation in which I'd wait 40 minutes in a store just to buy something. 10-15 minutes maybe, then I'd leave and come back later when it's less busy.

I can't think of a single store that would require a 40-minute wait, though.

I'd probably have walked out of your store long before it got to the point of the idiot at the register, but if it was the only option I had and I didn't want to wait for an online sale/delivery, then I'd have yelled and hollered at you until you felt about 2 inches tall, PLUS, I'd have yelled at the manager for hiring such a fucking idiot.

When you get down to the basics, all a B&M store really has to offer is customer service and no waiting for delivery. The internet sellers usually offer better prices and a wider variety of goods. If you can't offer GOOD customer service, why the fuck should anyone do business with your store?
