On average how patient are you? (Now with 30% extra pollage!)

How would you react to the scenario bellow?

  • I would loose it. I might scream and yell.

  • I would be quite visibly pissed off but wouldn't make a scene. I might complain to management.

  • I would be pissed off but probably wouldn't do or say anything about it.

  • I wouldn't be pissed off much at all. I would just consider it a retail mess up.

So I'm curious, how would the average Anandtecher rate their level of patience? To make this a little more quantifiable I'll provide a hypothetical stressful scenario and see how people would rate their reaction to this. Note no this has nothing to do with my new job it's just hypothetical.

This is a somewhat extreme example but not too over the top to try and separate voters out a bit.

Let's say you are in a a busy store and you are waiting in line to be served. There's no clear queue and no "take a number system" it's somewhat chaotic. You wait 40 mins before a sales rep gets to you. When they finally get to you and you place your order they have trouble processing your credit card, it seems for some reason they can't read your card and they have a store policy against keying the card in manually. After a further 20 mins they finally get your card to read and complete the transaction and you pick up the product. However you now realize that it's the wrong product, the sales rep has fucked up and thought you meant something else. Upon complaining it turns out they don't have what you want. Unfortunately because of the convoluted nature of their stocking system and because the staff seem rather untrained you have to go through a complex process to get your refund. This takes a further 30 mins because of how busy they are and it seems to you that nothing is getting done. Finally you walk out of the store an hour latter without ever having gotten what you wanted and the staff were never all that apologetic nor that helpful (though never out right rude).

Given the above scenario how would you react?

Fuck.. can a mod fix the spelling mistake in the poll title? Can't edit it myself.

I would have left long before I waited 40 minutes, unless they were selling teenage girls.

You are a fucking sucker.

When I was younger, I would have been much more of a dick about my "wasted time".
Having gotten to the point I am now, fuck it. Unless someone was a total nimrod or had 'tude that was an overall Retailers Nightmare, I'm quite sure the store manglement is aware of their limitations and they really don't need a lecture from me.

Besides, I'm no spring garden most days either.

I wouldn't wait 40 minutes to buy anything. Even at the car dealership I'm heading for the door if the salesperson takes longer than a couple minutes talking to the sales manager.

wtf kind of shitty ass no-service store did you shop at that has such bullshit policies.
i wouldnt wait 10 seconds for someone to keep trying my card. "no keypunch policy" my ass.

This isn't a typical example but it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility, I know from having worked in retail for some time.

If I'm at a physical store I want to see said product and confirm its exactly what I came in for. This all happens before any money changes hands.

five minutes is about the length of my patience. if i'd wasted a couple of hours at the place, i'd be talking with a manager, regional manager, and then corporate.

This +9000. I'm not voting in your stupid poll because there's no option for "I'm moderately patient, but wouldn't waste my time standing in line for 40 minutes like I'm some sort of Apple fanboy waiting to get the latest iPhone".

Why? What is that going to achieve? Aren't you better off talking with your wallet and moving on with your life?

How can you say you have little patience, then go on to say you would spend the next few days on an elaborate scheme of escalation?

as i said, in reality, five minutes is about the limit of my patience. if i were a sucker, i'd be a vengeful, spiteful, sucker at that. i'd do my best to get some heads to roll. how's that pop? that answer satisfy you?

tl/dr

It is completely out of the realm of possibility.

Learn about retailer credit card agreements first before you make shit up.

being a cashier at 7-11 and running a retail establishment are two different things.

Oh I never said that it was in line with the retail credit card agreement. Denying cutomers a transaction because of the lack of photo ID, or miss matching or fake photo ID is also against the card holder agreement but MANY retails do this. I also ran the 7-11 I worked at.

and report any one of those establishments to the credit card company and see how fast they continue doing it.

So.. you were a 7-11 franchisee? why did you seel your franchise?

No I was a manager as you very well know. These "policies" were not enacted at the store level but were corporate enforced policies. Field managers made sure that transactions over $100 were ID verified.

We also had a "We I.D under 30, it's the law" sign printed and sent down from our head office. It is in fact not the law, it's just "our law".

At any rate this whole argument is moot because it's unrelated to the OP. I was merely making up a hypothetical situation that might occur in a retail setting that would be somewhat stressful, not saying it was right or correct or following proper guide lines. I was curious how much patience people would have in such a situation, you clearly have very little.

This is spot on. I wouldn't get mad; I'd just leave the store and come back another time.

I leave some time before this 40 minutes has elapsed, probably not even entering. I consider it more efficient to come back at another time when the store is not so busy.

There's no poll option for that though.

I'd probably have walked out of your store long before it got to the point of the idiot at the register, but if it was the only option I had and I didn't want to wait for an online sale/delivery, then I'd have yelled and hollered at you until you felt about 2 inches tall, PLUS, I'd have yelled at the manager for hiring such a fucking idiot.

When you get down to the basics, all a B&M store really has to offer is customer service and no waiting for delivery. The internet sellers usually offer better prices and a wider variety of goods. If you can't offer GOOD customer service, why the fuck should anyone do business with your store?

BTW...

Patience my ass...I'm gonna kill something.

So you throw a tantrum like a petulant child in order to make the store assistant (who is just trying to do his job given the circumstances) feel small eg to make you feel like a man? Wow, you're quite a little bitch. No wonder your life is a train wreck.

Weren't you in the military? Show's what little pussies the US military churns out, eh.

if it came down to it, i'm thinking boomer would tear you up quite handily. most people i know that have been in the military, including the woman, would put you down in your place real quick talking like that. not that you'd ever have the balls to man up and talk shit to someone's face. 🙄
