the temperature and comp info is from CoolMon. Try google, I may post a list of all the links but I"m not feeling up to listing them all right now (kind of tipsy)

kewl thanx:) i got everything else working using extra high res earthmaps:) the 2400xXXXX ones hehe. only thing is the night 2400x earth map has less obvious lights sorta:p btw what does the -background command really do? at first i thought it meant i could replace the starfield with my wallpaper, but it didn't seem to work:p can i do that anyhow?

the -background command does work I just haven't gotten it to. you just have to put in "C:\My Pictures\blah.jpg" or whatever to point to what picture you want for the background. I don't know why mine won't load the picture I tell it to.

Great proggie....very cryptic though. If they simplified this with a nice point/click interface they could sell this for some $$$$ :D

SuperFreaky It's working for me. http://xplanet.sourceforge.net/

neomits, great desktop. Thanks to yours and others help here I've got it up and running. Thanks for the links. Like the moon you inserted as a background. Would be cool to have the stars too. I've got Photoshop Elements but I will never figure out how to use this program. I would think it could be done using Photoshop.

Never noticed though, do the stars turn too along with the earth. Don't think it could be done then.

Check the path in the Destination box under the Download Settings tab. Should go to the images folder. You have actually downloaded the file, right?

Screenshot, might help with settings.

OK....I whipped this up in Photoshop in 5 minutes:

My desktop

I'm not really happy with it though....it's hard to find high res pics! Anyone have any sources?

Thanks. had the wrong directory.

Do u know how to automate the downloads? it says to use the program for the windows version, but when I go to the other website, it doesn't explain how to automate the thing, plus it's in german I think.

your supposed to leave it running minimized so it can refresh every X seconds. u gotta check off start xplanet every x seconds.

as for parameters

-body earth
-latitude 40.002804
-longitude -83.016404
-radius 40
-mapdir "E:\Xplanet\images"
-cloud_image clouds_2000.jpg
-blend
-projection orthographic

those are mine:p and yes you set winxplanetbg to start at every startup.

orthographic is globe. there are a bunch of others you can try too. rectangle is the one people get stuck with when they screw up:p or need to reboot. active desktop must be off.

well heres how the high res maps with ocean detail look like on my setup(messy desktop:) )

- i got the maps from the main sites links:p i forget which.

sorry hosted by geosh*ties

Have you tried the "Save Config" button? Also, be sure to put the program in your startup folder.
