Cool proggy. I d/l it last night; lots of variables to play with. I like some of the other maps too, especially Saturn and Io. I wish you could place more than one map on at a time. It would be cool to make your own solar sytem on the desktop.

Hmm... and idea. Maybe I'll do some small radius planets and then take screen shots and photochop them all together with some stellar and solar special effects for a nice planetary background.

Also, a nice map of the Moon here

BTW, just copy the .jpg image into the images directory.

Then in Parameters (checkbox) enter and add:

-body moon

or whatever other planet you have d/l into your images directory that you want to show.

If you like Saturn, go to the screenshots page on Xplanet and take a look at the settings he uses for Saturn.

LOL, yeah I will but it won't be anytime soon but maybe by the end of the week I'll have time to do a nice job of it. Another idea is you can make your own maps of some completely fictional planet. I might play around with that also, like a really colorful gaseous planet or an electric blue kind of ice planet.

Something to waste my infrequent free time with. :)

yeah it is possible to use higher resolution images. You'll have to convert them to jpegs and also make sure that its the same name, or if its not give the correct variable for the program to bring up that image.

Just open up the readme files to find the different variables you can use.

this is such a cool program. I know this sounds cheesy, but I feel more connected with the world. I have friends in Germany, Russia, and Australia, and it's always been kind of hard to relate to them or think of what the time is over there (sure, just add/subtract hours, but that's so abstract... just add two numbers. Here I can see the actual daylight as it creeps its way westward.). But now I can see that it's almost dawn where my ex-gf lives, and that my roommate's ex-gf is probably about to go to sleep right now.... It's a strange thing to think about. Seeing it nicely represented on my computer screen helps a lot.

Here's an updated and tweak a bit version.

I'm still trying to get a set background to work in conjunction with it. For some reason it'll only do colors and won't load the picture I tell it to.

Enjoy

I really like the earth image (that comes with the program) but isn't there one that has a more realistic looking oceans? They look kind of plain-one-color-blue.

Otherwise COOL Proggie!

I had problems getting this to run correctly until I downloaded the new version and started using the comand line options instead of the checkboxes.

What? How does that work? What are these path numbers?

cthulhu, look on the first page of this thread, someone there (I forgot who) posted a bunch of latitudes and longitudes. You can find the closest one and then move in increments to get to where you are! Also, Many encyclopedias have lat/long under the entries for cities. I don't know if encarta does, but you can probably find it on the web somehow!

I had the degrees and minutes just needed it converted. Thanks SSP for the site that converted the numbers for me.

Cool. I went outside and turned on the lights. Now I can see my house from my desktop. :D

Hey I think I see my neighbors doing it in their backyard hottub.:Q;)

This is one of the coolest apps I have ever downloaded!

Sweet!
