Hehe, I just re-read that - I sound like a total newbie does after they download their newest virus or spyware ;)

("I reckon it will speed up my downloads 48000 times on my 56k connection")

It displays an image of the earth and will update that image

Double Click the Earth button and there are settings you have to setup. I haven't totally figured them out myself.

Make sure active desktop is off.

Also try unchecking the boxes gradually and saying start now and see if it comes up

sh*t - that's a real-time pic of the earth? How often does it update your desktop? That's madd and tight. so you can tell from day time to night time and what not? Does it only cover NA?

Also get back to me when it's got one install; based on the comments here it seems like about 8x more work than I can put up with but I still want to know about it in regards to my first paragraph ;)

EDIT: I was under the impression this was a satellite updating a database somewhere and the screen saver pulling an image. It's not quite so cool is it...

hey guys IT'S SIMPLE TO DOWNLOAD/INSTALL!! it doesn't even need an "Install" application, you just unzip it and it's done. Just make sure and download the Zip file for Windows!

Skoorb, it kind of does what you're thinking. I'll quote the site:

I create a global cloud map [2000x1000 JPEG] every three hours (last updated Sun, 21 Apr 2002 00:13:29 GMT) using GOES, METEOSAT, and GMS satellite imagery downloaded from the Geostationary Satellite Imagery page at Dundee University. You can use these maps with Xplanet with the -cloud_image option.

Doesn't use any satellites to create the other pictures though.

Take a look at the screenshot here and make sure everything is the same on the .exe. Mine didn't load until I un-checked the destination path (ex: C:\unzipped\xpplant\etc etc etc was checked by default. I unchecked it and it worked).
