Know what you mean about that. Had a nephew fall into our pool in November and even in North Florida, the water was cold. He sank like a rock...was pulled up by his father and will never forget it. You can't be too protective when around a pool area.

Not true at all.

This is my first time opening the pool and I need the pool guy to show me how everything works. If you think it is just common sense, I have a pool drain, 2 pool skimmers, a spa drain and a spa skimmer all feeding into the pump/filter via a complicated valve system. The plumbing is not labelled properly and I don't want to fry the pump. In the meantime, the pool guy I know has not returned my calls for two weeks and an acquaintence at the local pool shop has offered to come out and help. The recent bad weather has kept him away for a week. Looks like he'll be here on Friday. So, I am not lazy and am not an idiot (in this regard at least).

When you find a floating animal that wasn't in the pool yesterday, you assume it just drowned. Of course, you immediately fish it out. That is the moment when you find out that it was decomposing at the bottom of the pool and had just resurfaced.

Am I surprised that my pool has interacted with nature? Of course not, I live in the boonies and my house interacts with nature all of the time. If you stand still for five minutes, a spider builds a web on you...

That's kind of disturbing actually....I guess we have 60,000+ members...but the quantity of sick pool stories in this thread is disturbing...

The only thing I think of when I think pool is the one in Katie's backyard and the various nice bathing suits she has....*drools on himself again* Damn it...

(Katie is a friend of mine that I have this really long standing crush on, cute to 😉)
 
Well this didn't happen in a pool, it happened in a river. Girlfriday and I were skinny dipping with one of our friends, we were like 13 or 14 at the time. I was standing there and I felt something move across my inner thigh, I looked down and was bitten in the face by a snake. The snake held on to my face for a couple seconds and I started screaming. And Girlfriday RAN AWAY, yes she ran from me and left me there to fend off the snake!! It didn't do any damage really, and it didn't even really hurt, it just scared the hell out of me😉
 
well this is not a pool story but a poop incident. i had taken my dog to groomers and was picking him up. he looked great when i picked him up, but i guess they fed him a 3lb bean burrito there or something b/c in the car he pooped through the whole back of the car (suv) cleaning it up was the most disgusting thing I've ever had to do, and he had to go back to the groomer b/c he had poop all over himself.
 
I was swimming with a friend late at night once. It isn't very well lit. He swore he saw something swimming in the pool but I didn't believe him. The next morning we found a skunk swimming in the pool 😱.

here's my poop and water story

I was about 14 and at the beach late afternoon (I live in florida) my family and I had eaten dinner and gone back to the beach. Suddenly I wasn't feeling well, and there were no restrooms anywhere close. Sooooooo I swam out as far as I could and well... you know

LOL, these are disgustingly funny. It reminds me of several years back when we were camping, and the pool at the campground was having pump problems. They let the kids swim anyway b/c it was hot out. My mom, dad, sister, and I went swimming in it, and after about 15minutes, my dad and I had enough so we went back to the camper. My mom and sister wanted to stay and swim, so we were surprised when they showed up 5 minutes later. It turns out they were swimming in the deep end of of the pool, and a log floated right between them. They wasted no time getting out. The lifeguard saw it, and got everyone out. There wasn't any swimming the rest of the trip 🙂

Raspewtin, I had a similar experience. When my boss got a new puppy, he usually took him to the vet in a cat carrier, but he got too big for that. The first time he rode in the backseat of my boss's jetta, he threw up EVERYWHERE. Of couse, me being the general car washer/lawn mower/disgusting job doer, I got to clean it up when he got back from the vet. The damn car smelled like puppy vomit for a WEEK. After that, I let him use my s10 to take the dog to the vet, cause we could pull the cap off and hose the back out 😀
 
Sounds like Mwilding and I have similar pool stories:

My parents bought and moved into a new house right before/as I came home this year -- big house, couple acres of land, in-ground pool, etc etc etc -- so I figure that at least I can escape from them by swimming every day. They forgot to tell me that the former owners of the house had MAJOR issues taking care of anything properly. Keep in mind that my parents have never before owned a house with a pool (isn't living the American Dream great?).

Opening the pool: The cover had well over a foot of murky, slimy, stagnant, leaf-and-other-tree-crap-filled water in it including thousands of large tadpoles and at least one frog as large as my hand. That took ~6 hours to get off. Later, we found out that the former owners had NOT winterized the pool properly (ie, remembered to throw in enough shock last fall). Thanks 😛

The pump/filter: It's broken. It decided to break after a week or two of filtering -- mostly in the evenings and weekends because there was SO MUCH crap that had gotten into the pool that running the pump for any appreciable time meant risking enough clogging to break the pump. The filter broke anyways. Keep in mind, this is AFTER nearly $200 worth of chemicals and it's mid-June by now.

Since then, we've been waiting for replacement parts to arrive and for someone to come install it. Any positive effect the filtering and chemicals had is completely gone now and the last quote we got for cleaning it out was $400+ so we'll have to do it ourselves. Last time I was out there, we had a mild leaf cover, a handful of frogs, and a drowned baby mole.

not a pool story but I was once at lake powell in southern utah, and the wind was blowing hard enough that I COULDN'T get back to shore after I had swam out ot a little island.

to make matters work my foot got caught in seaweed. by the time I got out I had leeches all over me,

Then she has the sense of humour to take a minute to post it all here to share a laugh with her online friends.

Me too.

I dont have kids myself. But my nephew is about 18 months old. Recently my sister-in-law took him with her when she went to see a friend who has a kid around the same age. Anyway, she put him in this really cool car that they pedal around in. Anyway, a few minutes later they noticed a curious odour. In her own words: &quot;You've never seen so much sh!t come out of a kid!&quot;. Naturally she was really embarrased, but her friend was really understanding and cool about the whole thing. I burst out laughing when my brother told me about it, really just cus of the way he said it. But then I put myself in her position, and now I'm quite sympathetic when it comes to this sort if thing.
 
My 4 year old cousin drowned in my grandparents pool. For gods sake, if you have a pool get one of those devices that floats on the water and detects waves. 🙁

She's a baby - she is in diapers. This is her first pool, a little inflatable splashy-pool with a few inches of water in it. She loves it - she was so happy when I brought it home and nearly passed out inflating it (thats a lotta lung power).

Elita takes her outside into our backyard everyday, no matter how nauseated my poor pregnant wife is, and watches her like a hawk as she splashes in the water and has a ball.

And yes, being a baby she pooped in the kiddie pool. Its a funny story, and was heck at the time for poor Elita, but she wanted to spread some smiles with the story - even if it was at her own expense 🙂.

Bober - we sure would if we get a pool. As it is this one is just a little inflatable kiddie pool, so instead we watch her like a hawk. The rule is we don't leave her alone for a second even in that little water. 🙂

I think you have gone over the edge a bit. It wasn't mentioned that it was a kiddie pool and also I was posting in general not a reply to you.

I think some people should be more responsible with some of their things and kids. Elita1 is different because of hersitutation and that is unaviodable with small kids, just should a mentioned it was a kiddie pool, I only know what is posted.

If you expect me to take web forums as seriosuly as a legal case or paper at school with spelling and proof reading time, your kidding yourself.

Also you could have im'd me or pm'd me for clarification.
