I wasn't saying they are lazier. No, they just value different things.

See bolded. Sorry for being a nitpicky ass today.

I was refering to them not contributing to scientific research, not them being lazy at working. That was a reference to them not giving enough money to scientific research, which they don't. Though lazy is probably a poor word, cheap would be better, since it is a monetary thing.

I am envious of the European lifestyle. Very relaxed and they are made to enjoy life.

No one cares about Spain. Same with France. The idea is a decent one, perhaps an hour at most after lunch. Three hours though? No, thats just lazy.

You do realize that they reopen at 5 pm and continue working? They're not lazy, they just decided that 8 hours straight of work pretty much translates to 2 hours of real work done, so why not split up the day. You must be crazy to believe that out of 8 hours, the average American is working for even the majority of that on a consistent basis.

Why the heck do you people have to come into every thread about another country, and compare it in a negative way to the United States? Are you jealous, or just really gullible to what is spewed forth by the media?!?

So, with a one hour break, how much of the eight hours of total work time do you believe actually goes into actual work?

Yeah, how can France, which is the less than twice the population California, have developed. on their own, nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers, build their own nuclear power plants that supply over 75 percent of their electricity, have one of the best universal health care systems in the world, send troops to fight in Afghanistan, build and run the fastest bullet trains in the world and still manage to have 35 hour work week and give almost the whole country the month of August for vacation?
Whatever it is they have, I hope we get some of it here in the U.S.

Obviously Webster has inappropriately defined the word lazy.

::Edit::
Out of curiousity, of all the people claiming Europeans as lazy, how many have even actually been to Europe?

It is amazing how California a state with less than 1/2 of france population spends more on medical research than the whole nation of france. How it has done more to advance humanity in most areas of scientific research, and how it has some of the best Universities in the world.

It's amazing how a nation of cheese-eating, job-napping, surrender monkeys somehow managed to articulate most of the Republican ideas that were adopted by the founding fathers of the USA and provide not only the inspriration behind the American Revolution, but military and diplomatic support, and a nice statue to celebrate the fact.

Bloody French and Americans. You two countries are totally gay for each other but you're so in the closet about it that you have to punch each other's shoulder constantly to prove your manhood. It was so much better ~200 years ago when you were more open about it.

During that time Russia was run the czars (or tsars).
The French Revolution was a witch hunt.
And the word dinosaur didn't exist.
What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

err...which were largely developed out of the British philosophies

America always had a lot more in common with the Brits than the French. It was an accident of history (and equally so British misjudgment) that the French Monarchy aided the American Revolution.

Personally I don't give a crap. If the French want to take a nap after lunch they can, it doesn't affect me in the slightest.

WTF... how many people directly contribute money to research from their paycheck? Almost no one. If our government spends more on research than the french government, how does that make YOU as a worker less lazy? That's like saying canadians are less lazy than americans because they spend more money on health care.

It was a lot of persuasion of Ben Franklin that got the French involved. Remember at the time the were bitter rivals. France hates England, therefore France likes the US. At the time the US was about the VERY FIRST colony to revolt against the King of England.

We actually fought for our freedom, not politely ask for it to be granted over a period of nearly 6 score!

Who said anything about workers in france being more lazy. I was pointing out that each country has priorities in different areas.

Actually France is in the forefront of medical research. The Pastuer Institute is on of the best in the world. In fact, the French were the first to isolate the HIV virus. And California universities and research centers are to a great extent because of California being part of a much larger and far richer country than France, the U.S.
