This isnt the piracy patrol. People are kind of picking on him because of what he said (the "other free" software thing) which could be interpreted either way. If the guy had said "recommend me some other minimalist, FREE, but good/cool email programs" would you be pissing and moaning because Outlook 2003 is not "minimalist"? Of course not, he is just describing what he would like which a minimalist, good/cool, and FREE email program such as Thunderbird or any other number of email clients out there.

Most of the people posting in here are being very hostile for no reason.

OMG dude, learn how to use the software already. You can make it look anyway you want. Don't come bitching here, go RTFM.

fvck you. its an oem version that i got for free. no manual. the help is about worthless.
i got it pretty much how i like it but there's still a few things that i can't figure out or can't get it to do.

like the navigation pane. i want to just show the folders, not all that extra crap, but no matter how i do it, there's always still this small section at the bottom.

The RTFM was only if you couldn't figure it out. I didn't actually think you would have to.

Down in the very bottom of the navigation pane there is a little button that has a couple >> and a down arrow on it. Click that and you'll see "Navigation Pane Options". You can remove everything you don't want.

That OEM version sposed to be sold with a computer by chance?

i did find that part on the av pane but it doesn't totally get rid of the nav pain. i just want to see the folder list and contacts like it used to be in outlook 2000.

just choose "folder List" or click on the Folder icon at the bottom and it will give you the same look and feel. It doesn't get rid of the bottom area but it's close to what you want...I think.

That's not at all why I'm picking on him. :) I'm picking on him because he came in bitching about something that was pretty much his own fault. I really hate that.

And in response to his last post to me:

Um, yes you can get it to look like that. Don't use "add or remove buttons", use "Navigation Pane Options".... or an even better idea: F'n monkey with it for all of one minute and figure it out! If no luck then I officially reinstate my RTFM.

Try Outlook Express, it's free as long as you buy Windows and it doesn't have all the other stuff that Outlook 2003 has, it just does email and newsgroups :)

i don't know what you're bitching about - under mail, it should show all mail folders under your 'favorite folders'

Google help? Seriously, if you can't take some basic steps before coming on a forum and swearing at people trying to help you, don't expect it to help your situation at all.

Yes, but it doesn't seem you do:

First Google Search I did...

man, I have to use Lotus Notes at work. it's the worst... I'd glad take any outlook-ish e-mail if they allow it:)
I used Notes once. It wasn't too bad after the initial shock of being in a corporate environment and not using Outlook/Exchange. It definitely had some different ideas, like it was based on old, out-of-style concepts but they weren't necessarily bad, just different.

No, I'm sorry. Lotus Notes is an absolutely horrendous email client.

you cannot make Outlook look nice. It's ugly, but it's an email client. I have yet to see a skinnable email client (I'd run it in a second!) if you want free and uhhh eye candy or something. My GF and like every female I know seems to highly recommend Incredamail. possibly the worst peice of software every, but like I said the ladies love it.

I did do that. you can only turn it completely off (which also removes the folder view) or you can only turn off certain parts of it.

i want to get rid of the favorite folders section at the top and i want to get rid of the rest of the navigation pane at the bottom. i can get rid of the buttons, but the nav. pane is still there.

people ask whether a game has come out or not on here but no one says, check google. people ask what something looks like and no one suggests they google. i really don't understand it.
