omg, i got in an accident... need some advice

the suprising fact is, it was not my fault....

In a 2 lane street, some dude on the left cut in front of me and I guess I was in his blind spot; I braked and slam into the curb on the right. I got his license plate and phone number, I didn't know what to do and we left the scene.

the only visible damage is the front hubcap/wheel-cover is damaged and the rear one is ripped off from the wheel, there are also a few minor scratches on the body. I am not sure about the real mechancial damage until someone checks it (which I have to anyways)
my steering rattles quite a bit, so I guess the alinement is off... hopefully the rotors and frames weren't bended.

I really hope I can get a 'free' tune-up, which i needed anyways, but here's my question,

should I tell my insurance company? or just keep it to ourselves?
I got like 500 deductable, so fixing the alinement and a few hubcaps won't do much... I rather things be settled w/out alerting the insurance....

Take it to get looked at. If its going to be an inexpensive repair then let it be. If its gotta be something major, you have to call him and tell him, ask him if he'd rather just give you the money or go through his insurance company.

although it was his fault for cutting you off, legally -- if you had hit him -- it would have been yours I think. So I'm not sure that you could hold him liable for the curb. If he is willing to pay for something, I'd take it. Since you have no police report and no admission of guilt, it might be risky to report it to your insurance carrier 🙁

Yea, you really need that police report filed at the time of the scene. Without it, the insurance company isn't even going to take you seriously. Sorry!

<< If it's his fault his insurance should take care of it, and it won't affect your insurance at all. >>

Not true. It affects your insurance even if you are parked legally, and somebody slams into you.

do you mean directly, as in they would charge you a higher rate? that hasn't been my experience. perhaps it varies by state

Get a estimate first, and see how much money you can directly get from this guy. Is he willing to pay for the damages he caused? If so you need to take him to the bank.

but do it FAST, before someone tells him the truth (that he doesn't have to!)
