Get a taser, the thought alone of getting shocked by one of those will probably deter most people like him.
A gun isn't the best choice as from what I've been hearing, if things get to the point where you believe they are going to attack you, shoot to kill. If you only injure them, they will sue you and in most cases win.
It's a very messed up legal system that allows this.
