PVR Dual Tuner/HDTV Receiver: MotorolaDCT-6416 III, HDMI, 1080i

VCR: MagnavoxVR-8555GY01, 20 years old, initial cost, over $1000.00 still running strong.

DVD/Home Theater: DurabrandSTS-98, Progressive, 3 years old, initial cost, less then $100.00 Good picture, excellent sound.

========================================================

I got the PVR installed today with the 8 channels HDTV package. It's going to cost me an extra $20. a month.

I hurt my jaw when it dropped to the floor when I first watched Jeopardy HD. I am going to sue my cable provider for careless broadcasting.

Then I watched American Idol in HD. I was able to find five live lices in one of the contestant's head. Paula didn't look any better but she appeared sober. Or was that an optical illusion.

I am currently watching a prerecorded Nova Arctic documentary. I swear to god, the room gets colder whenever they show the arctic ice. BRRRRRRRR

I got to go to work tomorrow but there are so many HDTV program to watch, and its 1 AM already. I got an idea, ill PVR everything.

The picture is so good, it's like being there.

Public service announcement:

If you don't have HDTV yet, get it, you will be amazed.

I have the Moto 6412 on my Samsung DLP, and a FusionHDTV5-Gold card in my PC.

Both are on Comcast, and both are awesome.

I have 4 hdtv's in my house...I got my first one several years ago 🙂

Welcome to the club...unfortunately the jaw dropping effect to will wear off eventually.

Aye.

Strangely it is more awe-inspiring that soccer in HD

The big thing is being able to see facial expressions under the helmet. You can actually see the players grimmace in pain when they get lit up.

Plus it's kind of cool being able to read play cards that coaches are holding and QB's have on their arms 🙂

I was massively impressed the first time I saw it, now I just take it for granted. like going from VHS to DVD was awesome but now we're used to DVDs.. I won't be impressed until we get 3D-holographic displays! With force feedback.. YUumm.. porn..

P.S. your set up looks gross.. The tv is way too high and your center looks like something out of the 70s. Try to wall mount the tv and get a simple, elegant $100 media center from ikea or target.. Carbon steel look would be nice. The tv is at an awful position..

also, get an upscaling dvd player - it's worth the $80

80s actualy. I always liked that cabinet. Its probably going to the dump soon unless I can sell it.

I did buy a Sony Upconverting HDMI DVD Player (DVPNS75H) player before Christmas.
There was NO SINIFICANT improvement even with an HDMI cable in pic quality compared to my Durabrand 480p player. I returned the Sony DVD to the store.

From my point of view, upscaling is useless.
HD DVD and Blue ray players are starting to come out but the cost are still fairly high. More significantly, I can't rent HD movies anywhere in my area. I am going to stick with my cheap DVD player for now.

It's okay, a lot of people have that problem .

I'd get HDTV through DirecTV, but they won't give me the local channels in HD (although I think all of them do broadcast in HD). I need my House and Heroes in HD!

Ouch. Like the baby seal said to the club, I walked right into that one. 😛

The jaw dropping wears off and you get pissed off watching SD content and begin to wish everything was broadcast in HD.

PS: off air is better than cable.
