you might want to try rochester institute of technology in rochester, ny.

there are fellow ATOTers who go to RIT. 😀

#3 in the country 🙂 Kate Gleason Institute of Technology.

They have a doctorate program now.

I went to tech. Now I goto Art school!!! HOORAY. I didn't like the extremely depressing concrete buildings of tech, now I'm happy at SCAD majoring in film and television.

G-Tech has a 4:1 male/female ratio, and a woman considered "hot" there is "below average" anywhere else because the men are desperate for anything they can get.

I'm sorry 🙁

Is there an iron wall around gatech? No, just look outside. Half the girls we do have are too busy with school to care about a relationship.

I really worked hard the past two years for mistakes I made in 9th grade and it really paid off! I can't believe I am going to this top tier school! I thought for sure I was going to end up staying in my hometown (boston) and going to Northeastern!!!!!!!! Anyone else go to tech and want to give me some advice? This is one of the most exciting days of my life!

Hahahaha.. welcome to the best and the worst day of your life. 🙂

<-- 6 years at GT

Emory is next door, but most of those pre-med chicks are stuck up. You may be able to find a good one to day...maybe. If you really want to find hawt chicks..you need to head up to Athens and find yourself some UGA poon...they're all easy and hawt as hell 😛

Sadly this is the truth. Ga Tech is a great school but Athens is where the parties are at. Just don't let ANYONE know you goto Tech or the consequences will not be favorable for your health.

G-Tech is a top teir school?

IMO GT is better in many respects than MIT, berkeley, stanford et al for undergrad engineering. There is a lot of professor focus on undergrad teaching @ GT and the undergrad facilities are A++, from what I hear.

Pretty much any top 30 engineering school is better than MIT and Stanford for the reasons you mentioned - MIT and Stanford don't care about undegrads. At MIT, most of the undegraduate classes are taught by grad students, not profs.

not from what i hear...

You guys really need to get your facts straight before you post. I'm a senior at one of those aforementioned places and I've never had a class taught by a graduate student. All of mine have been taught by profs, and quite a few Nobel laureates at that. Congrats to the OP for getting into GT 🙂

that's what i hear from a few freshmen I know who go to MIT

Great... another person to dodge driving to work 😉

If my daughter ends up going to Georgia State, I will need a :camera:
That way, I can show her guys to avoid!

Just kidding, GSU dorms are at the south end of GT's campus. And I would rather hook her up with engineers than the skater boys she seems to like (ex-surfer, yes, I know the type.) 😀

congrats and welcome to the club 😉

tech is a great school, but the hot chick to nerd ratio is like 1:1000000000 😀

good luck!

Yes that was one of the things I was worreid about but I found out that emory campus is right next to it so hopefully I will find some hot girls there. I applied as an EE major, I'm not sure at the moment if I want to switch to CE or not (they are very similar I've been told). As for saving cash, GA tech is pretty affordable (tuition and room and board is about 30,000), at NU I only would have to pay room and board for 10,000. IMO the 20,000 dollar difference is worth it considering GA tech is ranked in the top 10 for engineering and NU is in the 70's.

dude...spoken like a true playa...😛

The Emory chicks won't give you the time of day 😛 A lot of guys resort to Agnes Scott, which is an all-girls school about 20 minutes away (not many hotties there, but they're desperate enough to date Tech guys 😉)

Emory girls are easy as long as you have some game. There are less Emory girls available than you'd think, as a lot of the freshman girls are insecure and date soph/junior guys in frats for reassurance. But it's not that hard to go to frat row and end the night on a good note...

btw, grats 50

after you visit UGA you will soon become depressed and learn to hate tech, because you will realize that all the girls at tech that you began to think looked alright are truely bottom rung. then you will try to justify it by saying you are getting a better education...guess you just gotta pick your priorities.

Emory is hardly "right next door" to Tech, it's a good few miles away. I don't go to Tech but grew up in Atlanta and it's a great city. As was said before, don't expect any hot girls at Tech, but there are none at Emory either...

and as for whether Tech is considered a top-tier school, I don't consider it as one but I'm from Atlanta and wouldn't have considered going to any Atlanta school to save my life, so I have no idea. And I'm not an engineer...

There are hot girls at Emory, saying otherwise is simply ignorant. Emory is 55% female/45% male (at least it was) and there is a suprisingly large amount of attractive girls.

But yeah, Tech isn't "right next door" to Emory. Try to find some friends at Emory who will let you crash in their room for some weekends (fri/sat). I don't think i'd get a cab to Emory from GT for just 1 night of partying. But then again, GT guys can get pretty desperate 😛

and for people hating on GT, it's one of the best engineering schools and ACC basketball = win.

Yep, definitely need your pic. A 3x5 and one suitable for converting into a target. 😛 (step-dad likes to show any dating prospects the gun collection 😀 )

I hated how during my SF trip with my friends, my mom called me to tell me I got into G-Tech. I was like "Please, I'm trying to have fun and you remind me of college." Oh well, it's an easy@$$ school to get into even if you're out of state apparently. I say UCLA is a lot harder to get into.

Of course there are hot girls there, but for the most part you're going to find the stuck up northern JAPs. Vomit.

What?! You're coming in? Stay away I tell you! Stay away! You have no idea what you're throwing yourself into!

In all seriousness congrats to you for making it in. I know I was rediculously excited when I received that piece(s) of paper in the mailbox (+ my straight A report card from HS). Tech isn't bad as far as career development goes. Make sure you go checkout the Professional Practice office to get info about internship/co-op. Personally, I think the undergrad program @ Tech (for CS anyway) kinda sucks, but Tech sort of redeems itself by being a hub of employment for students. There are TONS of oppurtunity to get jobs, you just need to give a bit of effort into securing yourself one. I got a part-time job for weekend from a co-op interview (same pay as Co-op), but that's another story.

As far as chicks, there's not much choices on campus. You're looking at one of the worst ratio possible. The only solution is to search other campus. GSU is not that far, and I'm trying my best to get this girl there. I also know some people at Emory who socializes a good bit with Tech peeps. There are also tons of other smaller/private school, so just look around and hang out outside campus.

As far as grades. I'm still not too sure. I have 3.28 now, and I think that really sucks ass. However, every advisor and every other kids, I've talked to says it's good GPA. I know alot of my buddies lost the HOPE scholarship (3.0 GPA min) in 1s year or 2nd year. The lack of grade inflation is true. They really don't give a rat's @ss there, sincec tuition is dirt cheap. Knowing which professor to take class in is key to your GPA, trust me.

Oh yeah, I was same as you. I screwed up my grade pretty badly in 9th grade, but pulled my butts the rest of the time. By senior time, I had 7 AP classes that year...
