Omg, a telemarketer just called - and I bought the product!

StageLeft

No Lifer
He called and basically what I've entered into is paying $29 US for 20 issues of Pcgamer. Regularly almost $5 and I got for $1.50. He called it an excellent choice (this pleased me). 12.5% of the money goes to MADD (mothers against drunk driving).

Funny thing is just before I left work I said "I got a refund and I can't help but feel compelled to spend it on something - just something small I'd normally not buy for about $30". It was a call from God!

Anyway what's with the US? Man I get like 2 calls a day and that's just in the evening. I have an answering machine so I think I'm pretty well done answering the phone from now on; if it's important leave a message and I'll get back to ya 😀

I must say I was very happy to jump out of bed at 9:40 AM on the weekend and talk to a telemarketer. That set me off on the right foot all day.

<< We usually get 5 or 6 calls in the evening from telemarketers... bastards :disgust: >>

And Skoorb will too as he's on the "actually buys crap from us" list :Q

Sounds OK to me too. I think it costs them $1.50 to mail the damn things!

Lately, I've been picking up the phone when the Caller ID says it's "Out of Area", knowing it's a telemarketer. I'm ready to pounce on 'em and tell them to put me on their don't call list and all that... then I end up being cordial, tell them sorry I'm not interested and just can't seem to pull the trigger anymore... 😱

Well, how the heck you gonna get your curb address painted?

There ARE exceptions.

😀

Skoorb, I love you, but it's fools like you that are the reason telemarketers exist. If no one bought their overpriced and dubious offers, they'd stop calling people.

Actually, Skoorb got a better deal. $29/20 issues = 1.45/issue
$17.95/12 issues = 1.49/issue

Hahahaaaaa you guys all crack me up (specifically RGN for his totally irrelevant but still funny comment and amused one for confessing his love :Q) 😀 $18 eh? Well that means that 20 would cost about...$30...which is what i paid, which means that yes I didn't get a terribly good deal eh? BUT I am saving drunk driving. He told me there is a drunk driving death every 32 min in the US!

Anyway ultimately they send me a bill and upon receipt of money will start sending the issues so if I decide not to go through with it I can still cop out.

You haven't told your wife yet?:Q

😀

WHY!?!?!?!?!?

You just gave them a reason to continue trying!!!! I will NEVER buy anything from any spam mail or telemarketer solicitation! I just don't want to give them any motivation at all. Eventually they'll just give up (one can only hope, right?).

<< BUT I am saving drunk driving. He told me there is a drunk driving death every 32 min in the US! >>

maybe, but the amount going to MADD could be very close to 0%. Many fund raising companies "donate" whatever tiny percent they feel like after expenses including huge salaries.

If you've ever gotten a call from "police" or "firefighters" selling you tickets to some event, you should know the fund-raisers typically only give about 3% to some local police/fire charity -- it's a scam and a successful one because you think you'd better give money to the cops or else. Of course the person calling isn't really a policeman or fireman.

hey im a telemarketer whats with all these bashings lately? i sell charter pipeline service (cable modems) get 4-6 sales a day avarage.

Really it's nothing against the workers themselves, but the whole nature of the business. People don't like having to answer the phone & listen to advertisements.

I screen my calls, when I want magazine subscriptions I just check out the HD forum or I go thru a rewards program to order, get max value for my money and not have to deal with rude phone calls at ghastly hours of the morning.
