Both are linux software RAID1.

Nice, I'm actually quite a fan of software raid in Linux. I use it at home and the performance is great, and it's very solid.

Arg, so glad it's Friday tomorrow. The IT manager there is on my back and pestering me every hour about status etc... he's probably going to try to get me "fired" if I can't fix this, that's the impression I'm getting as he's been very threatening about this whole ordeal. He thinks I can pull off an unknown environment out of my ass or something. Since I'm a contractor he can't "fire" me, all he can do is complain to my boss who would not really do much because all the managers of my company know him as a nutcase. It's either that, or I will go see my boss myself and ask him to get me off this client. This guy (IT manager) is a total nut case and driving me up the wall. I need to capture some of the spiders from my house and release them in his office.

Is it illegal to sick a batch of brown recluse on a crazy IT manager? :p

If he's not your boss then tell him to back off or fix it himself.

When you replace it, be sure to use RAID 0 with three drives this time. ;)

The more drives the better the redundancy right? If I put mickey mouse ears on the server it will go faster too.

Some of the doctors just like to be uptight and not want to have anything to do with our environment yet still want us to support them when something goes wrong.
Just be glad you don't have to deal with software/hardware engineers.

this is truth. Damned engineers!

I hope that you write up an official report blaming the old IT guy for this and suggesting that they replace their RAID 0 with at least an automated backup system and that they replace their IT guy with something more useful like 2713 cubic centimeters of sand.

/facepalm

I've worked with medical data servers here in the states, and this just amazes me. Any tech worth their salt would know NOT to set up a server on raid 0. I think it might even be boarderline illegal if they didn't have some sort of backup...
