Seriously, it's Sony and it's not playable.
Sony wasn't the ones demoing games on Macintoshes.

edit: and if you're referring to the press conference, you can be sure as hell that they weren't demoing on final hardware.
He says in the article that the Unreal 3 and Fight Night demos weren't smooth which in all likelyhood means they were running off dev kits. The rest of them are pre-renders, as Anand himself points out. So, I don't really understand your point about MS using Macs to demo their games, which were playable btw, at lower quality/resolution.Originally posted by: BDawg
I'm referring to the demos in Anand's article.

and for the record, peple saying bluray will make the ps3 and break the xbox360 are just plain ignorant. so what if the disc can hold 50gb of data, do you honestly think that developers are going to take advantage of it? i highly doubt it. look at the ps2, at first most of the games came out on CD. then when the games got larger they moved it up to DVD. i think the whole bluray thing is mainly for playing bluray movies and not actual games on bluray discs. sure, eventually games will reach 15gb or 20gb or so and take advantage of the disc size. but you know what? its not hard to span a game over 2 or 3 dvds and take advantage of 27gb of space on 3 discs, if that is even necessary.
saying the format will make/break a system is one of the most ignorant statements i've ever heard of. its not like a cartridge comparing to a CD (ie, n64's road they went) where the cartridge actually costs much more to manufacture than a CD did. DVDs will cost LESS to manufacture than bluray discs. so yea, the format won't mean squat for games.

It means there isn't playable hardware, so they're trying to fake it.

Really? Is it a secret the XBOX games are running on dev kits? It's the game, just running on inferior hardware at this point. I think they've been pretty upfront with this.
I still don't see your point.

You know that most games being made right now do not even use half of the DVD ROM right?....blu ray's total space probably won't even be used except for an RPG game with a lot of cut scenes possibly.

Anand thought it was pretty important to point out.

No, what he is saying is that:
XBox360 - games actually playable, running on inferior hardware
PS3 - no games, no hardware, just pre-recorded videos
So you saying "But the XBox is running on Macs" makes no sense, because the PS3 games aren't running on ANYTHING as they DON'T EVEN EXIST YET!
Seems like MS is ahead in my book?
Sony has said that the PS3 is capable of running games at 1080p which is not saying much as I'm sure the Xbox360 is also capable running games at 1080p. MS has said that their games will mostly be 720p (baseline) or 1080i (optional). It is possible that Sony require all games to be natively 1080p but I think it's unlikely since currently only the highest-end displays can do 1080p. There probably won't be too much market penetration of 1080p displays by the time Sony launches so this is more of a marketing coup than anything else on Sony's part. Still, if I had a 1080p display I'd like to see games for it and it's obvious that Sony has more interest in it than MS at this point.Originally posted by: herkulease
I honestly don't know the whole fuss over 1080p. the difference between 1080i and 1080p is marginal to our eyes.
there's a difference yes but you'll have to nitpick for them.
sony's inclusion of 1080p would be great for people who don't already have a hdtv and will be buying one in the next 5 years as 1080p is slowly rolling out.
for those like me who have already have hdtvs and spent a few grand on them its not likely we'll be rushing out to get a new set anytime soon.
personally i find that sony's use of blu ray will only give konami and square to include longer boring movies in msg4 and ff12 or whatever its up to.
