Atleast sony and developers now have an idea of what the gaming community wants. So maybe they'll deliver.

Sony wasn't the ones demoing games on Macintoshes.
You're right, Sony wasn't demoing anything. ;)

edit: and if you're referring to the press conference, you can be sure as hell that they weren't demoing on final hardware.

I'm referring to the demos in Anand's article.

He says in the article that the Unreal 3 and Fight Night demos weren't smooth which in all likelyhood means they were running off dev kits. The rest of them are pre-renders, as Anand himself points out. So, I don't really understand your point about MS using Macs to demo their games, which were playable btw, at lower quality/resolution.

and for the record, peple saying bluray will make the ps3 and break the xbox360 are just plain ignorant. so what if the disc can hold 50gb of data, do you honestly think that developers are going to take advantage of it? i highly doubt it. look at the ps2, at first most of the games came out on CD. then when the games got larger they moved it up to DVD. i think the whole bluray thing is mainly for playing bluray movies and not actual games on bluray discs. sure, eventually games will reach 15gb or 20gb or so and take advantage of the disc size. but you know what? its not hard to span a game over 2 or 3 dvds and take advantage of 27gb of space on 3 discs, if that is even necessary.

saying the format will make/break a system is one of the most ignorant statements i've ever heard of. its not like a cartridge comparing to a CD (ie, n64's road they went) where the cartridge actually costs much more to manufacture than a CD did. DVDs will cost LESS to manufacture than bluray discs. so yea, the format won't mean squat for games.

EDIT: Link to article.

I agree with what you're saying, but as far as that link goes, it doesn't say anything about the PS3 video. That link talks about them making the intro for the current Kill Zone game for PS2.

Then again, MS actually has an online infastructure that works and works very well... :)

Really? Is it a secret the XBOX games are running on dev kits? It's the game, just running on inferior hardware at this point. I think they've been pretty upfront with this.

I still don't see your point.

Anand thought it was pretty important to point out.

xbox is in trouble anyway. ps3 is blu ray, xbox is some half gen dvd rom system. lol

You know that most games being made right now do not even use half of the DVD ROM right?....blu ray's total space probably won't even be used except for an RPG game with a lot of cut scenes possibly.

true, but I'm all for 1080p cut scenes in the next final fantasy.

I'll most likely purchase the xbox360 also, but if pc games are equivalent to the xbox games when its released, I'd probally pass.

I'm mainly interest in the ps3's bluray. I think sony knows something about it being the dominate new format, why would they put it in the ps3?

I honestly don't know the whole fuss over 1080p. the difference between 1080i and 1080p is marginal to our eyes.

there's a difference yes but you'll have to nitpick for them.

sony's inclusion of 1080p would be great for people who don't already have a hdtv and will be buying one in the next 5 years as 1080p is slowly rolling out.

for those like me who have already have hdtvs and spent a few grand on them its not likely we'll be rushing out to get a new set anytime soon.

personally i find that sony's use of blu ray will only give konami and square to include longer boring movies in msg4 and ff12 or whatever its up to.

No, what he is saying is that:

XBox360 - games actually playable, running on inferior hardware
PS3 - no games, no hardware, just pre-recorded videos

So you saying "But the XBox is running on Macs" makes no sense, because the PS3 games aren't running on ANYTHING as they DON'T EVEN EXIST YET!

Seems like MS is ahead in my book?

1st: I for one dont want 100gb Games.. That means I could only fit 2 games on a 200gb drive ;)

Secondly: jelkukipik.. Is your S key broken, or is your engrish?

I thought the unreal engine was running on the ps3's hardware in the conference? edit nm.

I love how people always assume the system with the better specs will 'win.' Just think back to playstation, saturn, n64. PS was the weakest of all three in terms of rendering capability yet, i seem to remember it wiped the floor with the other consoles.

This is how I see the console war heating up.

XBox 360:
Advantages: first-to-market, fully integrated online play system
Disadvantages: lack of developer support compared to Playstation.
PS3:
Advantages: bigger/better (for what that counts), large fanbase, backwards compatibility.
Disadvantages: Second to market, no unified online play.

I think online play is becoming huge for consoles and computers. If Sony cannot / does not deliver something like Xbox Live that could be an enormous problem. That being said, Sony always has it where it counts - developers. Right now, i think MS has the advantage because they are launching first, before the end of the year and they have a great online system. Those who say that blu-ray will kill Xbox you must be dreaming. What will kill Xbox or PS3 or nintendo's offering is a lack of quality games. In the end this is what matters most.

Some of you people are morons. Why do you blindly support some megacorporation's new product when you haven't used it or their competitor's? Until you've played any of the new consoles you're all just talking out of your ass.

Sony has said that the PS3 is capable of running games at 1080p which is not saying much as I'm sure the Xbox360 is also capable running games at 1080p. MS has said that their games will mostly be 720p (baseline) or 1080i (optional). It is possible that Sony require all games to be natively 1080p but I think it's unlikely since currently only the highest-end displays can do 1080p. There probably won't be too much market penetration of 1080p displays by the time Sony launches so this is more of a marketing coup than anything else on Sony's part. Still, if I had a 1080p display I'd like to see games for it and it's obvious that Sony has more interest in it than MS at this point.

Man, I wish they'd explain "done to specs." Since there was no in-game footage of Killzone 2, it's all "done to specs." Does that mean it's a 720p video clip? Does that mean it's in a format that can be run on the machine (like a cutscene).
