I worked for a larger "small" computer reseller (not a corporate chain) in this area, that did computer shows, for 2.5 years. I know how much hard work goes on behind-the-scenes at those little local computer stores. I respect that.

There's a few disgusted customers here that did not get what they want. I guess there will always be some around.
No one ever instructed me about lying to any customers about the online store and local chains are not the same company. Matter of facts, both stores share the same delivery centers locally. I guess that dude is just making up in the heat of the moment. One thing I know for sure is that a lot of the items are online and not in the local stores.
I suppose that would make sense, if the item wasn't available to purchase, but seeing it advertised on the official customer web site of the corporate chain, for a certain price, and then going to a local store, and the item is in-stock, but they absolutely refuse to sell it to me for the advertised price, is quite disappointing and upsetting. It could probably be legally argued, that prices displayed on a web site, absent any disclaimers to the contrary, could be considered a "nationally advertised sale price", much the same as if they were running it nationally on radio or television or other broadcast media ad spots. It was definately not a "heat of the moment" sort of statement. It was more like a recited piece, like something that they were trained to say to customers.

Bottom line is some people just talk and they don't know what the heck they are talking about and they always end their paragraphs sounding stupid and clueless.
I hope that's not in reference to my earlier comments. Everything that I've described, has personally happened to me. I can get you the store number, and potentially the employee's names, if you're really interested.
The thing that disturbs me the most, I suppose, is that I've gotten that "the online web site is a seperate [division/company/business/insert-word-here] from this [local brick-and-mortar] store" line, from more than just OfficeMax employees and managers. I've also gotten it from Staples employees. I honestly suspect that this is a new corporate bait-and-switch tactic to get customers into the store, and that this isn't limited to only just my local store. In fact, I remember reading a comment by another member on this forum about the same thing happening, at their local CompUSA, I believe it was. My stance is that this sort of intentional deception by the corporations, cannot be legally permissible.
