I actually just recently received JFK in my mailbox from netflix. He does make really good movies. I will have to check out the clip on colbertnation.
Of course it was. But, I think it did a great job of just putting out there all those things that bothered us yet we couldn't actually put our fingers on. The lose of JFK was a world changing event. It changed the tone of an entire generation. The movie caught that change and asked those questions. The story progression was great and the execution was superb. Also Joe Pesci's character/acting, Wow, Just Wow.

I just think it is funny that thus far all the complaints I have heard have been about the fact that it is Oliver Stone and he obviously has some political motives. No one is denying the fact that the story shows what a fuck up GWB was/is; they are just so upset that some "liberal" had the balls to do it.
Personally, I think repubs should embrace it. Show the base that no matter how unprepared or incompetent you are, you can still become rich and successful (that is if you have the backing of your former president dad and his rich evil cohorts).

I have no problem with him, though I question his timing and the way he is trying to portay the president with the timing,.... you know there are certain motives behind that. He does tend to put his political views of the country in his movies. I might watch this one,... but not until next year

Actually, isn't W supposed to be a very balanced view of Dubya's life?
Stone knew he couldn't just make a partisan film.
I heard it supposed to make you feel sorry for Dubya anyway. Sort of like a tragic figure who was turned to the dark side by Cheney and Rove.

I never got this whole "timing" thing. If Oliver Stone really wanted to stir things up he would have done this in 2004 like Moore did. Moore had a political agenda.
Bush's term is over. There is NO way we will have to deal with him after inauguration day (that is unless they cook up some sort of crazy evil plan to install him as a neoconservative dictator).
I am willing to bet they are releasing it when they are for two-three reasons.
One, Bush is still in office and there is still a fresh flavor of disgust in everyone's mouths. This will translate to viewers.
Two it is election season. As I am sure you noticed by all the P&N threads in OT, no one can get enough of politics during this time of year. This will translate to sold tickets.
Three, the economy/nation is completely fucked up. People are angry and broke. The outlook is dim. A lot of blame falls on Bush. This will translate to boxoffice.
It is less political and more capitalistic. Take advantage of the atmosphere. Hell, Bush did.

Exactly. He should have be a pig farmer, not a president.
He would probably have been a cool guy to have a beer with.
Now he's a just a corrupt, twisted individual.
Who says this film has to be exactly like JFK. Maybe it is a pretty non-partisan film. You don't know that. You just know that whenever any potential criticism of any republican is even hinted at you are supposed to play hurt, stomp your feet, cry and yell no fair. It is the modern conservative movement.

While I agree it is very capitalistic, I feel it is also political. I think that this is to play on the emotions of those who are borderline to make Republicans look worse and sway some votes. It is also to harden the emotions of Democrats who are not showing a lot of rationality as a whole over the last year and acting on emotion.
The economy is hardly the fault of Bush, the president only has so much control over the economy. There is as much blame on the democratic side. There is blame on the Federal Reserve. There is more blame to the American public.
Anyways I think he makes some decent films, though I don't always agree with his view on America.

How did you feel about WTC? or The Doors? All apolitical. or Natural Born Killers? NBK was huge social commentary but it didn't take a political goal. How about Platoon?
He tends to take controversial issues and examine them. He not only does it well but also does it beautifully. Artists are supposed to take a magnified glass to our lives.
