I was always under the assumption that olive oil was good for you. Well if you listen to this guy he says that it's actually pretty awful. He's a vegan so maybe his view on olive oil is a bit extreme?

Anyway, I'm Italian so I'm not going to give up my olive oil any time soon.

It's not so much bad for you as it is just something that should be used in moderation - like virtually all toppings/sauces/dressings/etc.

He's not wrong that it's basically liquid fat.

True, Olive Oil is predominantly unsaturated fats. However as a % of it's fat makeup Saturateds still make up more than what you would really want - however, again, that's fine when used in moderation imo.

Personally I think the greater concern with oils/sauces/dressings/etc is what he mentioned in terms of caloric density. It's very easy to consume a seemingly small volume of such substances but still have a fairly drastic increase in calories.

The 10L box($175) looks interesting for routine cooking. That's roughly twice the price of cheap Italian oil. I like the idea of buying American.

I wouldnt cook with it. Its VERY flavorful and $$$$ so buy 1.5l for cold usage or adding to dishes after cooking.
