The proper ethical and moral response in a civil ideal society not the corporate oligarchy we have today were doing the right thing can get you fired,

Why do you hate America?

A Kobayashi Maru scenario for the manager.
... Maybe my ST lore is weak, but how is this "unwinnable?" Tell the customer he/she will have the assigned server as service decisions are not made on or he/she is free to leave. Not too complicated.

I believe he meant it as light-hearted. Satisfying the customers versus satisfying the workers is a daily balancing act and that is why I never want to be a manager. Too much responsibility.

Until the customer says to the staffer's face, "I don't want a spook serving my food". If you are the waiter then what? Why should the waiter be subject to what seems to be in fashion racism? They are then subject to comments like "go back home to your shithole country"

As a few posts earlier that's what happened to Maurice Rucker

The moment the customer says that you throw them out and ban them from the restaurant.

I deal with this on a fairly regular basis, although certainly Healthcare is different than food service.

At least today with social media if you get fired there is some recourse. Companies don't want this kind of publicity.

Never worked in food service, have you?

For probably 7 years of my life (bus boy, server, bartender) during my high school and college days. Why?

Maybe I just worked at places that didn't take issue with us telling shitty customers to walk?
Olive Garden is corporate. Very different animal from a privately-owned establishment.

TBH, I'd have told them to GTFO regardless, but I don't have a wife and kids.

The manager, acting in his official capacity, clearly violated the law and exposed the company to substantial financial liability by his actions. He should have told the customer he could not and would not do that and let them decide if they want to stay or not.

Would you be upset if the company had the nerve to fire the manager if he was caught stealing? Same difference.

I'm not sure what law was violated. Unless the manager had a history of racist behavior or sympathizing a removal from duty along with retraining seems appropriate IMO.

I suspect if the manager thought corporate would have his back he would have removed racist customer. People have families and bills to pay. He may not want to risk getting fired.
