Everybody knows they suck.

If they provided good tvs for a cheap price they wouldn't be going out of business. That's the point.

Picture quality of Olevia TV's is actually pretty good, its the build quality/reliability that leaves somthing to be desired and if you get the panel cheap enough even that doesn't matter much. I forget exactly what I paid for the 532H I have in my kitchen but it was in the area of $375 & it compares favorably to my much more expensive Toshiba's in IQ.

Sorry to hear they are going under.

At least read what you linked to. Olevia is not filing for bankrupcy, Syntax-Brillian, one of the investment groups that previously owned part of Olevia is. In fact, Syntax-Brillian is selling it's vivitar division to Olevia as part of the bacnkrupcy proceedings. Ok, so the article(both OP's links are to the same article) OP linked does not mention the sale of vivitar or that TCV group now owns Olevia, but this article does.

Olevia and Vizio suck.

True. Unknown brands suck big time.

I love both of my Samsung LCD TV's.

I remember when samsung was thought of like olevia and vizio.

I'd buy Olevia or Vizio over Samsung any day.

Ok ... I like my Olevia but lets not get crazy ... if the price is comparable theres no way in hell I'd take it over Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba or even Panasonic.

If you want to say Olevia's are a great value for the price vs Samsung etc I can't argue.

That's bc Westinghouse uses Sharp LCDs (i think). In fact I think Westinghouse is Sharp's "house" brand. Vizio on the other hand is it's own manufacturer.

The reason a company goes out of business is usually due to mismanagement, or being stuck with a product when a product sector changed fast than you could (which could also be blamed on management).

LOL +1

whats wrong with vizio? They make nice stuff.

Id honestly take a vizio plasma over per say, a emprex frys brand one.

Vizio isnt that bad. If it was Costco would of pulled it off there shelf.

as for taking it over samsung.

Hellz no. Sorry but 25k contrast ratio and 120hz is leet.

Olevia/Vizio are cheap because they have trade-offs or gaps in some features. For example, in offering a 1080p LCD HDTV for a nice price, they don't tell you that the contrast ratio is below the standard set by better companies. The material used in creating the chassis is often cheap silver-coated plastic, etc.

If you're going to spend $800+ on an HDTV, you might as well buy a good brand HDTV that's worth the extra $200-$400. The bigger the TV, the larger the price gap becomes.

Maybe by jingoistic Americans, but then again, why would anyone here in the U.S. ever know Samsung is much more than the electronics that most seem to see from Samsung, like the fact that Samsung is the world's second largest conglomerate, just behing GE?

Or that Samsung is a host of companies in a host of industries.....like heavy equipment, machinery, finance and insurance, chemicals, engineering, entertainment, ship building, along with their electronics? But, hey, if it ain't in the U.S., they're nobody, right? This, despite Samsung being around since 1938.......

I have a 32" Olevia in my bedroom that I got for $428, hard to argue with that.

No complaints with the TV either, looks great with HD content.

No, because most Korean consumer products were garbage for years. Remember the first Hyundai cars, complete garbage. Now, not too bad and lots of Americans buy them.

You mean the jingoistic, bigoted Americans that buy all of those crappy electronics from Japan, China and Korea?

Visios are awesome, not to mention they have the majority marketshare, which is a testament to them doing something right. Only people who don't know much about TVs would point only to Samsung and Sony as the only elite brands, kind of like how Bose is to the masses.

I wonder if this will cause all current models to go on sale, as they would have warantee without the purchase of an in-store extended warantee.

I remember my neighbor growing up who came from Korea had a Lucky-Goldstar computer (LG), and it was pretty crappy. Products improve over time. Olevia has decent products, good TV's for the price but they're run by idiots.

Olevia is one of the best brands for the money out there. My 537H Olevia has served me great for the past couple of years. But then again, leave it to the Sony/Samsung fanboys to talk shit regarding TVs that cost $1k+ more.

BTW, one of the best TVs out there is the Olevia 747i.

LOL! You must be into sh!tty TVs. If so, I can understand why you'd choose those sets over a Samsung or Panasonic.

Vizios are nowhere NEAR elite brands. They are considered low end, Wal-Mart grade HDTVs. Good for the money, but nothing you'd purchase if you are looking for the best HDTV. And the only people who would consider it an "elite" brand are the people that can't afford the elite brands. Just a bad case of sour grapes.

And I know enough about TVs to know Vizio is spelled with a Z.

No, you're very, very wrong. Visit AVSforums or something.

Samsung actually makes some fucking awesome LCDs. Great contrast ratios, and very bright screens. My college kid budget doesn't allow for a $1000+ Samsung LCD. It does allow for a $300 Emprex 32" LCD. Contrast ratio leaves a lot to be desired, but I had to turn the damn backlight down because it was lighting the whole apartment up. Onboard speakers burnt out, replaced them with a Sony HTIB for $100 as opposed to dealing with their horrible CS. Happy +++ :p
