Wow, even though I have been here almost from the start I was never involved in much DC until lately. 🙁

Nice to see a bunch of the Oct '99 guys though!

Ok how about a more general trivia? What was Anands first car and how long did he have it before it got smucked?? Name of his first g/f?

Where's my Geritol??? 😱

Those were the good ol' days. 🙂

And as I recall The Garden was mainly made from those (at the time) excellent 486 Intel procs.
I think, the newer members can't believe it was a state of the art crackrack, besides the WarpCore of Clay Autery.

Haven't seen Clay here around very much these past days (or is it months?).

BTW, does anyone knows how things worked out with the lady friend, he tried to help. She was involved in a divorce lawsuit for keeping her son with her.

The winner of the first TA -vs- SO game was TA of course. We had fun putting the smack down on ViRUS.

Anand had a blue beemer rag top. Don't know what his girlfriends same was.

Damn I feel old now.

Bgod,
Not as old as most of us in this thread? 😀 Oh and Thanks! You know what I am talking about. 😀

I've been around the DC forums since the early part of the SETI team but I've been a member of the Anandtech Forums for as long as I can remember. I do remember the frequent UBB reloads and resets. I dunno how old that makes me tho... 😕

Technically, we've been around even before Oct 99, like Dec 98 or Jan 99. I think that was only when AT converted to new Forum software and we all had to re-register. OK, here are my two bits of nostalgia. How many of you remember the jaundiced cow? Or when we could configure the cow to moo when it finished crunching a block? We were wondering what it would sound like in dmcowen's labs if he got all of them to moo?? 🙂

The jaundiced cow!!! And remember when DNet tried to switch to a little globe for the System Tray icon? That didn't last long. 😉

edit: now that I think of it, we even had a How-To guide on how to replace the globe icon with the beloved cow by downloading a trial version of Paintshop Pro and editing it.

I joined the original TeamAnandTech on 29 Dec 98... the forums were here for a couple of years before that.

Clueless, concerning being in a room where all the computers Mooed, one of the work areas in my building did have the sound turned on. There were about 12 PCs, so you would hear one very often. The computer owners were very upset when I tried to go with a "moo-less" client.

Two people said, "No moo, no CPU" and held me to it. 🙁

Heh, the rate of progress..

I was just checking some old stuff I had backed up and found my old machine list from '00.
Seems kinda absurd that back then I had one batch of P2-350's at one location in work (10 units), and now one of my machines can make more blocks than those 10!

Alright oldtimers, sound off with the very first machine you used to crack blocks/WU.

Mine was a Pentium 200.

Dual P3 450. 😀 In fact, I just got the motherboard and one of the two CPUs back from my sister about a week ago (the other CPU had a problem and I sent it to networkman for his dedicated SETI fleet, since it still ran SETI without issues).

Hated that old board, crashed every week, I must have re-registered 5 or 6 times, DES was a flop, them guys with the big machine cracked it in about 12 hours or so, before I even got my first unit done.

<< Don't know what his girlfriends same was >>

it was Amy.
Remember his movie reviews??? and his pix from school?

Bleep

Oh now I have to tell you what I "first" started craking with? hehe Well it's the same as what I am using now. Pii450@504 and a P233 Tiz all I gotz and I aint gotz not money for something new.

I wish it would still moo...

I was using an FIC PA2007 board with a Cyrix MII-300. That Cyrix was running until my son got a new computer for college and we gutted it for some parts.
My home heater runs more often since shutting down the Cyrix.

Pentium 233MMX
Built by Micron, rebuilt by me. 🙂
When it was all done, I had spent well over $3000 on that thing. :Q

😀

Yup it was a Beemer... If I recall he had it less than a month and was involved in an accident.

WOW bleep that is good! Amy it was! (I remember because I hosted a chat room that Anand used to show up at every now and then and we used to harass him occasionally about her.) I remember his movie reviews, and his blurbs about how his life was going etc. Was some good times!!

How about his contests?? Sheesh I wish I could have raided his closet just once!!!

I am not sure when I first joined AT but it was within the first yr of its inception... 🙂

Hmm my first cracker was a AMD K6-2/300 I believe...

Tyan Tomcat II/ Cyrix P120 (100MHz). 😱 Now where is that link to BK's flaming Cyrix so I don't feel too lonely!!! 😉

I'm close, but I don't get any cookies! I was looking at this part of the forums in July 99, but didn't look at anything related to any of the Q's you ask.

Started doing RC5 when mika's was dhs.org.

<< How about the Alien vs Cow wars? (that was before my time but I remember hearing about it)
or MURC vs TA battles?
>>

Oh well, MURC is atleast beating TA in Genome. 🙂

My first cruncher was a Cyrix 6x86 P150+ (technically IBM; that's why it survived for five years) doing Proth. But that was before I knew about TA. In fact, I don't think TA existed in July 1997, did it? I was assimilating machines at work while you were still in diapers! 😛

I don't remember CSC, and I wasn't around for the WarpCore or Mika's original domain (though I think three cows that flush to the dhs.org domain are mothballed at my old high school). But other than that, I remember everything on the list. 😎

And by the way, I don't think I ever mentioned this to anyone, but the day before DCypher announced they would do Gamma Flux, I had sent e-mail to the guy in charge of the project, that DCypher was looking for projects. His server was firewalled off, so he couldn't get any work done.

P.S. I don't remember that well, but I think there was only one OGR PTE. Most were RC5.

Here's a question: Does anyone remember the name of the first page hosting the Gamma Flux project? 🙂
