<< (it and the 'older' MP are the only pure AMD chipsets >>

If you think I wasn't eyein those $200 TigerMPs at Fry's over the holidays, you're a little nuttie. :) But I got the OC bug now. And I know those little 1600+MPs can handle 1.6+Ghz no problem with good voltage support.

<< Wishing everyone a great 2002 >>

Ditto that. Thanks to all the ATers for their input/help last year.

I have found my first review of the MSI K7D Master board HERE. Although this reveiwer didn't discuss the overclockability of this product, MSI in the past, has had some great options available.

I still haven't made up my mind yet which to purchase and plan to wait a while longer to see reviews of other products.

As for my choice of the 760MPX, just seems logical since it is the next step in the evolution. This isn't an Intel product evolution where they have been know to make some major mistakes when it concerns consumers (Rambus comes to mind). Hopefully, the USB 2.0 bugs will get worked out, although I have nothing that could take advantage of 2.0's extra bandwidth (yet).

So I'm starting my case mod today, and hopefully after I finish it and get the power dropped in, the mobo situation will be stable.

Happy Dually New Year!

EDIT: Sorry Moohooya, I didn't see your link when I sped read through the forum. I agree, no mention of a USB Issue, but I don't think there are many USB 2.0 enabled devices to test it with yet.

No problem. Much rather see it linked twice than not linked at all :)

Hopefully the reviews will stat pouring out now that VIA Hardware got their hands on one. Can't wait to see how stable and fast these version 1.0 boards will be.

I know its a bit off topic but does anyone know if an adaptec aha 39160 is 33mhz or 66mhz 64bit? It's 64bit PCI but I don't know the speed and it's not on adaptec's site. I'll have enough slots if it's 66mhz but if its 33mhz I'm fubared. I don't want to slow the whole system down like they say it will. ughh. Thanks.

Yet another review :) TBreak's MSI K7D review

Equally off topic to aCiDReflux question. Anyone know of a CHEAP 64 bit SCSI card? I'm currently using an old Diamond UW (40MB/s) Would love to upgrade if it doesn't cost much. I'm guessing I'm out of luck though.

Anyone know if the 760mpx's are actually in stock anywhere yet? I'm planning on getting the asus a7m266-D but don't feel too comfortable with the dealers listed as having it on pricewatch. Has anyone ordered one yet?

I think I'll give newegg a call and see if I can find out whether they'll be stocking them anytime soon.

New review posted HERE of the ASUS board. This one does talk about the USB problem. So head over that way and take a peak!

I'm tempted after reading, but I think I'll wait to see one or two of the other boards first.

I really wanted to buy the ASUS board, until I read that the heat sink holes are filled in and so you cannot use the Alpha 8045 (I've already bought 2) heatsink with this board. I guess i'll wait until the Gigabyte or MSI boards are released......

I think Einux said they'd have the Tyan 2466 MPX within a matter of days, and the ASUS perhaps around the middle of the month.

If there are sightings of any others though, please give a shout.

Nice review on the Asus board, BTW. But no Vcore adjustment. :(

The asus does look tempting, but 1 slot for SCSI,1 for NIC and 1 for USB. That leaves 0 free. (I don't count 64 bit slots that I won't be using.)

I hope someone will try to use non MP chips with these new MPX and report their success or failure:)

 Um, reports are 'all over' the web. Including prior posts in this thread.

The initial post regarding only MP working in 760MPX boards was due to a beta bios in an MSI board.

A couple of reviews have reported that XP chips work fine including one of the reviews linked above.

I noticed them but I thought all of them were using sample boards. I just want to hear from fellow members who succeeded in running non-MP chips.:)

I was flipping through the review of the MSI Dually HERE (as mentioned earlier) and I didn't see the holes in the MOBO for the larger coolers either. I wonder if we will not see them on any board? Does anyone know if the Tyan board will have these? I haven't seen anything on the new Tyan or the others.

EDIT: Where's YODA?

It's hard to tell. I see the round holes but you can't really tell if they are filled in or not like the Asus. I've kinda given up on the hole thing - most boards I've been interested in had other components in the way so an Alpha or Swiftech wouldn't fit anyway.

The enlarged view on Gigabytes site looks like it has the holes and they're not filled. Can't tell if anything is too close though...
This is the board I'm waiting for!

i'm planning on using one of the these dual rigs for high-edn video editing and am looking for an affordable scsi hard drive. can someone recommend a good drive suitable for this? i want to stay away from u160 since i don't plan on adding that many drives, probably just two.

Check out storagereview. I think my next drive will be an 18G 10,000rpm. I'd love an atlas, not sure how much they cost tho.

I think StorageReview is going under? Think I read that someplace on the web.

I was doing some video (amature stuff) with Firewire on my Sony DV. I started with SCSI (non-raid LVD) and it was fine. But with the prices of IDE coming down, I also tried a pair to 40 gig maxtors in RAID0, and they were about the same as the SCSI. So I've migrated over to the IDE RAID setup and saved my SCSI dollars for this Dual rig so I can render quicker. I'm by no means any expert here, since I just do this part time. So refrain from the flames. :)

GasPath has you headed in the right direction ... for video editing, you are looking for Sustained Transfer Rate, which IDE RAID-0 can provide. Typically, you'll see folks use a low access time SCSI drive for boot and high STR IDE RAID-0 setup for working with large files. However, if the data is important, you may want to consider a mirror plus stripe setup, using 4 drives. More money, but in a RAID 0 setup, if one of the drives goes south, all of the data is lost. You cannot rebuild the data with the remaining drive.
