it's EV Nova that's for windows. Also, try googling for Exile 1 2 and 3 from Spiderweb Software. they're underrated and under-advertised, but many an hour was spent on that game. it's an on old bird's-eye RPG/Puzzle game.

counterstrike😉 source!

yea grim fandango was good, so was nolf..don't think i'd actual play through em again though

Can you guys give a bit of description about what kind of games some of these are. Most of them I've heard of and know...but games like the exile series, shadow man, etc I've never even heard of.

PC:

Fallout
Fallout 2
Half-Life
(many more -- brainfarting though)

SNES:

Super Metroid
Earthbound
Out of This World
Flashback
Actraiser
Super Mario All-Stars
Final Fantasy 2/3
A Link to the Past
Chrono Trigger

PS1:

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (perhaps my favorite game ever)
Final Fantasy Tactics (perhaps my 2nd favorite game ever)
Xenogears
Vagrant Story

Xboxist,
Good call on FF Tactics. I loved that game.

A very similar soon-to-be-classic is Disgaia for PS2. I would give FFT the edge tho, better spells.

Try looking at Home of The Underdog. You'll find some seriously old but excellent games their, and you might even be able to download some of them too!

Pizza Tycoon is a classic, but quite hard to get into.
Mad TV is a game like no other.
System Shock 2...obviously.

Hope you find one you really enjoy!

I had, and probably still do but don't play FPS as much, a tendancy to jump around games before finishing them.

I LOVED Freespace 2 when I was playing it with my MS Sidewinder back in 99 or 2000.

I still have Myth 2. Didn't finish that either.

I still have Thief 1 and 2. I got to the last level of Thief and never finished it. I should even thought that level tried my patience. I still need to finish 2 I think.
I own 3 but haven't finished it since I feel I should complete 1 then 2.

I own NOLF2 but haven't really started it.

I loved AVP/AVP2. I still have 2.

I'd highly suggest looking around for a copy of Anachronox. Although built way back on the Quake 2 engine and released full of bugs, the developers continued to work on their own time, and it still looks respectable. Kinda like an adventure/RPG (very similar to FF battles and mini games) with the absolutely -best- cinematography I have ever seen in a game using the engine.

How old are we talking? Say anything from 2003 and earlier?

Command & Conquer Renegade
Call of Duty
Diablo 2
Deus Ex
Deus Ex Invisible War
Descent 3
Half Life
Jedi Academy
Jedi Knight 2
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2
Medal of Honour Allied Assault
No One Lives Forever
Quake
Quake 2
Quake 3
Red Faction
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Starcraft
Soldier of Fortune
Soldier of Fortune 2
Serious Sam 1st Encounter
Serious Sam 2nd Encounter
Star Trek Elite Force
Star Trek Elite Force 2
TIE Fighter
Unreal
Undying
Vietcong
Warcraft 2
X-Wing

Jedi Knight: Jedi Acadmey is really fun. I just finished playing it for the first time and found it highly entertaining. It has pretty decent replay value since you can customize your powers.

If you want to lose your life.... take a look at civilization 3, Warcraft 3 (multiplayer) or Starcraft broodwar (multiplayer). Those are probably some of the most addictve...

Really old games that are good? Hmm if you didn't grow up with them you probably won't be able to stand 'going back in time' in gameplay and graphics but... memorable ones

RPG's:

Chrono Trigger (SNES, also on PS1, probably one of the best RPG's ever made, I'd love a modern remake of this puppy)
Final Fantasy 3 (SNES, also on PS1, it's named FF6 in japan)
Final Fantasy 2 (Snes, also on PS1, it's named FF4 in japan)

PC games:

Descent: Freespace and "freespace 2", in #2 they dropped "descent" from the title, Freespace 2 is a must though (it's a classic) the first one wasn't so hot (graphically/etc), but it got the job done.

Mechwarrior 2: Titanium edition (if you can find it) or the old Dos versions + Ghost bears legacy, this was just at the cusp of 2D/3D chips that could do texture mapping.

Need for speed: Porsche unleashed, probably the best balance between "simulation" and "realistic" driving game ever made, I have never played a game since that has the replay's/camera angles and car control as good as this game.

Planescape Torment - Do yourself a favor and PLAY this game, even if you do not like the combat, just going through it even with a walkthrough, is a MUST experience for anyone, IMHO. This is probably the best game on any platform with the most well done story in a game thus far.

Probably lots of others I'm missing, I'll have to think on it some more.

Does anybody remember, an old PC game called Dungeon Master? It was the first RPG I ever played. To show how old I'm talking here, I played it on an Apple IIgs.

I remember that whole Sierra line from back in the day:
King's Quest I-IV
Space Quest I and II
Police Quest
Liesure Suit Larry (The Original)

Those games were great.

You should play it - I really enjoyed it - gets off to a slow start but then great fun with lots of inventive levels and silly baddies. Be careful with how you spend your points for upgrades, it can be pretty tough if you don't spend them wisely. The chase level is a classic 🙂

I still love AOE 2.
