Okay, so some pedophiles are scoping out my kids online...

My sister had the same problem a few years back, she created a group on yahoo called 'the boys' with pictures of her kids for family to see. Then she started getting non-family members joining, so she closed that down.

Is there an email on the site? If you want, we can start an ATOT effect of rude emails to annoy the webmaster with. I have 8 gmail account available for any willing spammers 🙂

I offer up a similar gesture with the 5 gmail accounts I have to give away.

This is the reason why I don't post any personal pictures on the web. In the rare occassion that I do share digital pics, I do so via e-mail.
Isn't it disgusting to have to worry about crap like that?
Yes it's disgusting.
Though you have to understand that the internet is a seedy underbelly of the world, and caters to thoes people.
The internet didn't start as a family oriented thing, so in most respects it shouldn't be treated like that.

I feel for you man.
Starting today, I hope you'll refer to internet rule number one.
Never post personal information about yourself, pictures of yourself or your family online unless you want trouble.
Get the kids pics off that site. Get your personal information off that site.
Google will have all the pages cached for eternity, maybe you can have them remove the info.
Good Luck to you, I sure hope everything works out for the best!!!

i agree the filename/description changes to generics is the way to go, preventing hotlinking, tags to prevent indexing, also good, definitely remove any personal/specific info

you'll prevent further inappropriate interest in your site but whats already done is done

this is just an unavoidable consequence of the freedom of information we all support (in theory)

Put a copyright notice on your picture and then complain to their ISP that they're in violation of the DMCA

*finally a good use for the DMCA*

I have a website for family and friends, where a new picture of my kids (I have three young boys) is uploaded each day. I've never password protected the site, because we have a variety of fairly non-computer-literate people that like to see the pictures.

I noticed the bandwidth was particularly high this month, so I perused the weblogs. Apparently a pedophile message board has linked a couple of pictures, discovered by looking at the referring URL and the high number of requests for these images. I don't know the context of how the images were posted on the message board, because that part of the site is private and I sure as hell am not registering for it. The public part of the board has such wonderful polls as, "How often a day do you j**k off?" and "What age do you prefer your boys?" The site name also has the word "peddy" in it, so apparently they're not too upset with the pedophile label.

I have already banned the IP addresses for every machine that came from that URL (most were from the Netherlands). I also removed my site from Google (I'm guessing picture names like "cute boys" probably triggered Google hits we didn't want). I suck at Photoshop, so if one of you guys wants to make a nice substitute image for the two pictures that were linked, I'll be happy to put them up. I still don't want to password-protect the site, but will if this activity continues, even though it might eliminate some of the aunts and uncles and grandparents from getting to the site.

Any other ideas?

Cliff Notes:
1) Some pictures of my kids apparently got linked to a pedophile website
2) Asking for help dealing with it
3) Pedophiles are the scum of the earth

I'll make a nice, rather mean, photoshop image for you if you would like.

There is one good way back at them, though it would require the URL and the collective help of AT. PM me if you're interested.

If it were me I would declare all out war and go balistic!

1) Good job enabling hotlinking.
2) Password protect and make the password easy (like family last name) give it to friends, relatives, etc.
3) Revenge! Replace the pics with something very offensive or scare the living $@! out of them.

Password. Even for the less tech-savvy, if you can learn to turn on a computer and use an OS, you can learn to type in a login/password.

My cousin had a similar website for her kids for a little while and my mom expressed those same concerns to me. I just dismissed it at the time, but I guess more sick fvcks are out there prowling for pictures than I thought.

I think he'd get in more trouble doing the attack. Judges dont like vigilante justice

Yeah, I'm no lawyer but, the attack would be targeted @ a site based in the netherlands, so perhaps it would be less risky?? Even if it were prosocuted, I can't see any Judge sympathising with a pedophile website

THIS IS MAKING ME SICK!!!!

If Gmails are needed, I have 4

/me still wonder why parents like to put pics of their children's pics on the net for sick pedophile to enjoy.

Just because a judge sympathsizes doesn't mean he'll dismiss the trial. He's still bound by the law, otherwise defense lawyers would be out of a job
