If it were me, i would have waited 2-3 more months for the new samsung models to come out w/ HDMI 1.3 support for deep color as well as numerous other standardized things that make older tv's color look like black and white.

Those displays would be way above the price point of the 2006 units. The features are too new to justify the $$ increase.

Nice :) How much did you pay for the stand, out of curiousity? Looking for a decent stand for my 46". (My cousin has the same TV as you, got the stand thrown in for free from Crutchfield)

Good link to get you started on starting points for calibrating the tv, issues, etc for your model TV.

I have an HL-S5087 too. Eliab's starter settings are excellent!

I cannot find these settings i9n the over 200 page post, can you be more specific where they are? i have spent over an hour in that thread at least.

no not really...

Have you seen price points?

maybe 100-300 respectively per unit for newer displays. If you buy it from a retailer such as CC, and argue about price, they will get it pretty close.

I find their prices to be about $200 cheaper than BB and CC. But, unless you live near NYC, I guess it's nicer to pick it up since you probably would lose lots of the savings in shipping.

How much did you pay for it?

I considered that but shipping it to California would have been $150. Not to mention the wait and the hassle of returning it if there was a problem with the set.

Besides, I have a Circuit City Visa card and they gave me 2 years interest free for using that to buy the set. I'll have it paid off in a few months but still, that's free money!

No, I haven't seen the newer unit price points yet. Linkage? I do consider ~$300 excessive for HDMI 1.3 or other so-called "standardized things" given the PQ and featureset of my current display.

Yeah that's a little over the top, especially considering there's what... All of ONE source on the market with HDMI 1.3 and there's no content for that anyway (PS3).

The Samsung sets are great values, I paid $1797 for my 61". No way in hell I'd be able to do anywhere near that any time soon for an HLT.
