okay two guys walk into a bar on a sunny sunday in august, one sits down, the other stands....the guy sitting is wearing a striped suit...the other has on sunglasses...

the one who stands has a beer that he ordered a moment ago but it tastes flat...why?

The guy in the striped suit is a referee for some outdoor sport. Maybe football, soccer or cricket (i will explain the latter two in a bit). The guy wearing sunglasses is a spectator who just finished watching the game most likely. The ref sits down, the tourist is still standing talking/rubbing shoulders/doing something. This part kind of confuses me... dont really know why he is standing... the sunglasses probably signify tourist attire. Maybe he is a visiting sports reporter interviewing the ref after the game. Regardless the key point here is that he is from out of the country.

The reason i chose soccer/cricket is that those are generally played in england. The tourist/spectator was drinking english beer, which has a reputation of being flat (see: http://www.epinions.com/content_2780471428 Text).

IN A NUTSHELL: the beer tastes flat because it is british beer which is generally perceived as flat.

edit: just like to clarify how i used the given facts to come to my conclusions:

1) Sunday - Sports are played on a sunday
2) August - New sport season
3) Sitting - Possibly being interviewed? Sitting at a desk of some sort?
4) Standing - Interviewing sitting guy
5) Stripes - Referee attire (although i just realized that maybe not all refs use stripes outside of US, i still stick with my claim however)
6) sunglasses - tourist attire implying visitor to the country
7) Beer - has a pretty strong association with sports
8) flat beer- england (see link)

sounds pretty good to me

It's home brewed beer, and the carbon dioxide level dropped to 1.55 or less thereby making the beer seem flat.

Or, the beer was stored in direct sunlight thereby making it flat in a very short time.

the two guys are playing poker. The striped suit the guy is wearing is not clothing, it's cards. The other guy is wearing sunglasses because it's common in poker. "Stand" doesn't mean that he stood up, he is standing his cards. The beer tastes flat because the guy lost, everything is bitter to him.

The fact that it is a sunny day doesnt matter. Bars keep it dark so you dont know what time it is. The sunglasses combined with the darkness caused him to pick up the wrong beer.

...ok the guy with the sunglasses just came from outside where it was sunny and his eyes haven't adjusted to the darker indoor light yet, looked at the pinstriped suit guy looked at tthe clock on the wall and got that persistance of vision crap that happens when you get bright light in your eye and close your eyes type deal.

then he looked at the clock on the wall and thought the time was sooner than it was but it was actually later and the beer had gone flat whilst he did not realize how much time had passed.

ok i give up now.

Seeing as people have guessed so much as to repeat other's posts, by now it's time to reveal the answer IMHO.

Okay, I got it. Never mind it's August, never mind the striped clothing......

The guy standing is a "Men in Black" type, who just got off of work and stopped by to get a beer. The guy sitting notice he dropped what looked like a large pen or cigar holder, and in actuality was his "mind flashy thing", that the MiB use to wipe memories from people. Coincidentally, it was set for 4 hours.

When he goes to hand the "mind flashy thing" back to Mr MiB, he accidentally sets it off, catching the MiB guy too, because it was in his peripheral vision, where the RayBans wouldn't help him at all. This is now 4 hours later, the entire bar has come out of their "mind flashy thing" stupor, and they go back to what they were doing before, without ever noticing that 4 hours has gone by.

That's why the beer tastes flat. Now gimme my $$$!!

Good answer, good explanation, ultimately incorrect though.. who said they walked into a british bar? Wouldn't it be called a 'Pub' if so?
