Ok, so I picked up Okami... moooooooooonths ago.. I wanted to play it when I first saw all the pretty Japanese scroll-like art. It was simply beautiful to behold. I spent the first day of the game just running around enjoying all the scenery. The gameplay is smooth and constant. Not to mention variable. You can either be precise and use your brush without even having to touch your enemy, or you can go in for the kill with an assortment of disks (reflectors), whips (rosary beads), and really big swords (glaives). You can wield two weapons at once, a main and sub weapon, which really adds a lot of strategy to your fighting. You can also find rare opportunities to purchase gold dust, which boosts your weapon power.

As for challenging... well.. its... not really. I mean, I *suppose* you could die. But if you're smart with your health bones and astral pouches you can't *actually* die. Even falling off a ledge just takes off a little bit of health. I played the game 600 hours, and never died once. Sure I did *technically* die once, but that's what the astral pouch is for, consider it a medic revive in an FPS.

Either way, I don't want to give away any of the game so I won't discuss the story, but I will say that the game is gorgeous, full of things to do, and has one of the best game endings I've ever watched.

So I'm done with the game, and will now start playing through it again to pick up some of the stray beads and demon fangs i missed.

The ending seemed to leave a lot of room for an Okami 2, and if that's the case i will DEFINITELY pick it up on launch day.

PICK UP THIS GAME!! It's WELL worth the money!

Definately a GREAT game, one of the many great games the ps2 has to offer.

It's sad that clover was dismantled. Any news on that group of developers?

From what I *heard* they are all back to positions within Capcom because they wanted to keep open the possibility for sequels.

I was really saddened by it too :( I really hope Capcom will let the original developers work on a good sequel.. I loooved that game.

I haven't played all that many PS2 games, but for me that was my favorite PS2 game of alll time.

Just a side note, if anyone here has listened to the soundtrack, the final track of the five disc set is "Looking Forward to the Next One." In this song, a standard classic Japanese song plays like the rest of the game music. But it only plays this for 1 minute. After that, there is a long pause, and suddenly Okami music springs up in the form of 8-bit NES era. Do you think they are trying to say they are going to do their next game on a handheld? Or perhaps port the game to a handheld like the DS??

I was hoping for that as well, but according to the article on Wikipedia:

While many gamers felt that the Celestial Brush aspect of the game would have made Okami a better title for Nintendo's Wii console, Atsushi Inaba of Clover Studio has stated that Okami is primarily an action game, and the Wii controller would not be well suited for the overall gameplay contained within the game.[44] Industry rumors persist that the US branch of Capcom is looking to bring Okami to the Nintendo Wii platform, though Capcom UK has officially stated that they "have no plans for Okami on Wii at this time" and that "given Clover is now closed for business", it is "highly unlikely a Wii version would be possible".[45]

Agreed. Awesome game with amazing visuals and sound. I haven't had that much fun and experienced so much awe factor in a long time. It was definately a departure from the cookie cutter games from the last few years. And by few I mean 7 or 8. :)

I was actually jsut watching G4 this morning while I was getting dressed and noticed the old Gphoria 2007 awards from back in August. The Longest Game award was given to the new Zelda Twighlight Princess game while Okami remained a nominee.. Now, I've never played the Zelda game as I don't have a Wii, but I'm curious: I just spent 600 hours playing Okami and could have spent many more finding everything... Is Zelda really THAT long?

I hope you meant 60, because 600 is ridiculous. I found everything in about 70 hours I believe.

Zelda took me around 50 hours, however I didn't find all the poe souls or get the golden armor. I don't know if I even got all the heart pieces.

600 hours is a long time for one game, but you should see World of Warcraft play times.

If you like Okami, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are great experiences too.

Played quite a bit of it over the summer. Love the game. Might take me a while to finish it though seeing as how school started up again. :(

Haven't play Ico, but Shadow of the Colossus is great. Can't say it's really the same as Okami though. Sure, they are both adventure games, but they have different gameplay styles to them.

If you liked SotC, you'll like Ico. There are a couple spots that I needed to look up in a FAQ, but the overall experience was great. I was kinda sad when it was over. Definitely is a contender for "games as art".

Do be sure to check out Okami. You won't regret it. I was saddened that it received such poor sales, especially considering the raving reviews it received.

Okami & Odinsphere are @ the top of list of games to play on the PS2... really on anything console/PC. Mainly because I read/hear a lot that both games are beatiful & have sick gameplay. Sell me your copy of Okami. :D

I honestly would, but I'll be playing through it several more times :D I'm afraid I can't sell it yet.

Yeah, Okami was a pretty amazing game. When i got it I power gamed through it in a weekend lol. I also have to say SoTC and ICO are both awesome, and I'm playing Odinsphere now and like it a lot. If you've played SoTC and like definitely get ICO. I ended up buying it cause I found it at a random store and I like it better than SoTC, its one of my favorite games.

It's basically a 3D puzzle adventure. There's a little bit of fighting, but since you can't really die, it's more to provide a sense of urgency. It's a bit tough to get the hang of at first, but definitely worth playing through.

You can't die? Is it like Okami can't die? (sooo many things provided to heal / revive you that you can't really die) or some sort of ghost can't die? (im a specter so it doesn't matter what happens i can't die anyways)
