Thanks for the advice:beer:

The most annoying thing ever is when a customer butts in on something, calls you a liar, making your customer you are working with leave, and having him act like a prick when he was actually wrong.

Example? I was selling an internal cd burner to a customer to a guy one day, who had told me he had changed his memory and similar things before, and wanted to know how rough a job putting in a cd burner was. Well, I asked him what version of windows he had (it was winXP), and I told him that it was as easy as pulling out his old cd-rom drive, and connecting 2 cables to the back, and screwing it in place (the ide and power cables, with winXP no reason for the audio cable). Another customer butts in, saying "hey bud, nice try, but there are THREE cables you need to plug in... I wouldn't expect a punk kid like you to understand that though. Officemax is notorious for hiring numbskulls for employees, you're better off going over to walmart and getting what you need from someone who has a clue". I was floored, that jackass lspouted incorrect info and made me look like a jackass when I didn't do anythign wrong.

Sorry to hear about that. Hey how old are you anyways. I'm gonna be getting a job sometime soon but I don't know where to go. Somewhere techy. I would REALLY like to work at Frys, but its sorta far away. I dunno, I don't think BB lets 16 year olds work there, but I think Compusa does. I'll straighten em up.

I'm 21 now, been working there since I was 16 off and on (took a few summers off for internships and the like). You get nice perks not from the store and company itself, but from companies whose products you sell, works out nicely.

I doubt bb has an issue with 16 year olds, the employees always seem young to me

Well, that sucks. Sorry that happened to you. But although he was being a prick about it, there actually are three cables, usually. (Power, IDE, analog audio.) The last is of course optional in WinME or XP. I still always connect mine, in case I want to dual-boot and play old DOS games, or use the front-panel play/skip buttons to listen to an audio CD in the background. Also, analog audio uses zero CPU time. But I'm kind of old-school about some things, and I suppose that a lot of new system-builds don't even bother with the analog audio anymore. At one point, I had so many optical drives installed, that I had two daisy-chained sound cards installed too, so that I could wire up all of the analog audio outputs properly. Talk about overkill. In hindsight, I guess I probably was unlikely to listen to three audio CDs simultaniously, like Data on Star Trek:NG did once or twice. I guess I liked the flexibility of being able to use any drive for audio CDs.

I don't know what happened to you, but I was approached by the Best Buy manager and asked to verify what I had done and had said to the customer.

I was asked to leave the store and if I did it again, they would press charges. (for what I haven't a clue)

I left the store. I have returned to buy games and stay away from their new system sales.
If anyone ever tries that BS on you, IMMEDIATELY pick up your phone, call the police, and have them come take a police report of exactly what happened. Employee lied to the customer in order to sell a product, you corrected his statement, you were threatened by his manager. Get that on the record and see how quickly that manager's supervisor will correct the manager, apologize to you, and let you go on your merry way.

Never let anyone push you around :)

Sorry if this has been posted before; but yea call the cops crimson117. Get everything down, I'm sure the officer will love to play around with the manager for wasting his time (I work in a police station and they live for stupid calls like this). Hell you'd probably get a handshake from the police for being a nice guy. Get youself politely escorted out of the store, go find a fat slobbering ambulance chaser read trial attorney and sue the pants of Best Buy and the manager.

Worst case: your suit gets thrown out of court and it doesn't cost you a dime, but you have the satisfaction of watching Best Buy drop that guy like a sack of bricks.
Best Case: you win your suit, get a billion dollars because John Edwards is the VP and he likes your style, it gets reduced to 500 million in an appeal, you get 70% of that minus taxes, and get to live fat and happy. Oh, and the BB manager gets dropped like a ton of bricks, moves in with his mom and sees you on TV in your new Gucci suit talking to Kati Curric on the Today Show, with your new sexy celebrity wife who loves you because you stick up for the little guy.
Likely Case: Best Buy cringes at the lawsuit, nips it in the bud and gives you some cool merchandise to keep you quiet, and let's you personally fire the manager who hassled you.

Nothing like spanking the 1000lb gorilla until it cries like a baby.

I almost went up to praise him for being honest, till I found out that they didn't have the network switch I went there to purchase. Then I walked out.

Was that me? I tell people that all the time. I dont care if people buy our crappy software that wont work for them. I really get people when I tell them not to buy our USB cables ($20) and goto radio shack, cause they're cheaper. I've also rid my store of a few customers looking to buy gameing pcs cause staples selection is pretty crappy in that department.

Just spent an hour reading all 14 pages, thanks guys!
Wish I paid more attention to idiots at Best Buy so I could tell some stories. Generally I just walk off in another direction when i'm shopping with someone and an associate walks up, and if I'm buy myself I tell them to bug off.

i think the salesman could have tell the customer that the P4 3.2 is faster. since the P4 based retail computers are more expensive than the AthlonXP based pc. he could have earned more commission. that salesperson is STUPID.

heres a good. one. I was on the phone with emachines tach support(which sucks) and i told them that my memory stick went into the read in my laptop but only stuck out a about 1/8 of an inch and i could not pull it out with my fingers, i had to get a pair of needle nose pliers. emachines owners manual doesn't even mention anything about the laptop having a ms reader but back to the story. I get the indian guy with his stupid lines."i undertstand how frustrating this can be sir"... "We do not have any information on that sir" and so on so i tell him to put on a managor. the managor is an american (judging from his new york accent) and he tells me my memorystick is not standard size. i told him it was and he says well it must not be the size that the reader was built for. I asked him what size the reader was bulit for and he says it was for standard size memory sticks. i argue with him for a while and he asks me"what do you want me to sir fly out and fix it for you" at this point i had enough and lashed out at him for about a minute about the quality of their tech support and howe they don't back up there products and he tells my"now don't you get smart with me" i had enough i hung up the phone and am never calling emachines tech support again. anyway the next day i was messing around with the memory stick and it turns out that you have to push the memory stick farther in and then it pops out. I just found it amazingthat after spending 30mins on the phone with tech support they couldn't tell me something so simple.

Note: I do like the laptop i bought from emachines even though i was originally weary of the quality from reviews i had read about emachines but the laptopis fine and seems to be high quality for the price. I doubt i could find the laptop parts and build it cheaper then i got it for.(its a m6805 amd 64 3000, radeon 9600 512 ram). THe thing i don't like about emachines is there tech support. they don't even have a 1800 number.

four years ago my parents had their P3 1 gig, 20 gb hd, 256 mg pc1333 rig i built for them was crashing. I was away at boarding school so my parents, without asking me, took the computer to CompUSA. they told me the diagnostics cost 100$, then, in all their tech knowledge, determined that the hd was to blame and insisted my parents buy a replacement hd the cost 100$ from them. then they offered to install windows, on the newly installed hd that took them maybe 5 minuted to do. my parents also said yes. By the time I heard them finish teh story, I was about to pass out

diagnostics: $100
30 gb hd (back in 2000) : $100
Windows ME : app. $100
Labor: $50

the sad thing was that it didn't even fix the problem, I got home a month later and they said it still kept crashing. a simple memtest later and it was simply the ram. Now could somebody PLEASE tell me why compusa technicians dunno how isolate a part to determine the problem, or even run a simple diagnostic utility? I have never walked in to CompUSA since.

well... i don't have so many computer salesman stories as a good one my friend told me once

"well, amd are going 64-bit and intel are going hyper-threading. thing is, hyper-threading is intel only, and 64 bit is for anyone. i'm getting a pentium 4 with hyper threading and 64 bit when they come out."

may not be funny in itself (as it's mostly true), but he also said that hyperthreading "doubles the number of bits in each clock cycle".

$20 for USB cables at Staples? That's relitively cheap. At CC, BB, and CUSA they're going for $25 (purple display cards and gold plated, of course). And RS? They're no dummies over there: $23. Generic electronics supply house: $4.39 out the door.

LoL so basically hes saying "Its already covered in sh*t even before you and your retarded kids install all those pr0n dialers, viruses, and all kinds of spyware"
