That's funny, but the HP XP3200+ system they sell@walmart clearly says G4MX integrated right on the box ;)

personally, i think all those bastards above mentioned should be shot. they even fooled my dad once, i was SO DAMN PISSED OFF because i had to live with the POS he bought for 3 whole years. at sam's, he bought an AXP 1600+ system made by system that was running on a KM133A mobo with S3 ProSavage GFX. he bought it cause he saw the words/numbers, "512", "GHz", "XP", and "80 GB". as a matter of fact, for a while i prefered my good old Slot A 900 MHz hp with the Vanta, at least my games worked on it

I am into PC sales at the Best Buy here in London. We have a lot of computer enthusiasts as well....it makes sense why are we 1st in the Company in AMD Sales % as well as ATI to Nvidia sales. I have sold a few Celerons...but only in packages with instant savings and for a customer that only needs it to surf the net, etc. I think we are one of the few PC Stores that actually have all knowledgeable associates.

Intel has spent most of its PR money on shoving GHz importance down users throats, its probably why Best Buy and CompUSA manage to sell SO many Celerons

Only have one story since I do my PC shopping online - but mind boggling nonetheless. Walked into BestBuy a few days ago, looking for thumbscrews. Sounds simple enough. Looked around were I thought they would be, but alas, couldn't find it. So I asked one of the "tech" guys there if they had any thumbscrews. He looked at me for maybe 10 seconds, and said "For what?" I didn't even bother to reply.. just walked out. Have a story from my friend though - at the same BestBuy mind you. He asked for a molex connecter - the sales guy directed him to a replacement VGA cable. And to think I just applied for a job there.

My computer turned on but there was no display on the monitor. I brought it to a local computer shop and asked him how much it will cost you to fix it. He said, "65 dollars to open up your computer and check it out". From that, i knew that place was a rip---> off. Why would i want to spend 65 dollars for someone to open up my computer when i could do it myself for free plus in 5 seconds?

Well, the sales guy wasn't wrong! :) VGA connectors are molex connectors, as are USB, PS/2, SATA, IDE, and all PC power connectors.

I assume by 'molex' connector he meant a power connector used for hard/optical drives. Molex call these "disk drive connectors".

Buying a TV for a friend in BB, the salesman thought the RCA jacks were S-Video, but that's not that bad. What really made him look like a jackass was when he kept shouting the PMPO of speaker systems...
"ONE POINT TWENTY ONE JIGGAWATTS!"
"no, it's really just eleven watts, thanks for your help though."

Ahh what is wrong with this? The guy said it would cost $65 just to open the computer up.

If you can do it yourself why bring it to someone else to fix it?

I don't know how you value your money MrMaster, but i sure as heck wouldn't want to shell out $65 to merely have a computer looked at. Now maybe if they fix it for $65 it would be a different story.

OH YEAH I KNOW... the future shop guys loooove to sell warranties and they won't take "no" for an answer. It's rediculous. They must get a huge cut from selling them.

Im not suprised sales people talk crap. Apart from the obvious, they are put under a LOT of pressure behind the doors to deliver results. Even if that means misleading a customer.

Actually, yeah, they do. When I worked at best buy (which was non-comissioned, unlike future shop) they still always pushed the PSPs ('performance service plans') - I sometimes got bitched at for not getting a PSP on a $3000 laptop or the like. Most people see the price of the laptop let's say: $2500, and then the PSP price, which should be around $399 and they run for the hills.

EDIT: And I don't blame them one bit.

A guy I work with bought memory from Circuit City (CC) (don't have a BB in my area) which the salesman sold to him. He called me up and wanted me to assist him on installing it. I told him that the first thing he needed to do was to compare the two memory sticks from the pc and the one he bought from CC, compare the small notches cut in the bottom of the memory (was trying to put it into lament terms for someone that has never seen the inside of a PC). He told me that the one from the PC had two cut outs (pc66) and the one he bought from CC had one (pc2700). He told me that he told the salesman what type of PC he had; an older Compaq model, and the salesman told him that this memory was the type that he needed. I told him to return it and next time either let me take care of it or another specialized tech.
