The reason the movie worked is because everyone identified with the characters as someone they knew in high school. The animated series takes those same characters and puts them in "cartoon" situations, breaking the whole concept.

I expected this to be something along the lines of Beavis and Butthead in the style of comedy, but they've turned it into a standard "how outrageous can we get every week" series, and it breaks the whole concept of why the original movie worked in the first place.

I give it a few more weeks before it's cancelled. I think the original cast wanted to make another movie, but everyone is too old now.

DVRd the first 2 just to see. Didn't make it through 5 mins. of the first and just deleted both. Awful.

The movie was inexcusably awful, the cartoon looked about 20 times worse, and it's coming out 7 years after Napoleon Dynamite had any relevance. Yeah, I could've told you it was going to suck.

I thought the movie was dull and unfunny, but the final scene almost made up for it. Never had much hope for the animated series.

It was a terrible idea even in the brainstorming phase.

Which is probably why Fox approved it.

The movie was awesome. How can you think this was not funny.

Napoleon Dynamite: Stay home and eat all the freakin' chips, Kip.
Kip: Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.
Napoleon Dynamite: Since when, Kip? You have the worst reflexes of all time.
Kip: Try and hit me, Napoleon.
Napoleon Dynamite: What?
Kip: I said come down here and see what happens if you try and hit me.

It is what it is.

It's an animated extension of the movie. I think it succeeds at doing just that. I don't know what the hell people were expecting. or is it just ATOTers like to complain about friggin everything. It actually seemed to fit in after the Simpsons-Family Guy-American Dad sunday night.

I don't understand how anyone could see the ads and not immediately know that it was going to be a steaming pile.

The movie blew. This is one of just 3 movies that I can remember not finishing in my lifetime. Heck, I even watched Skyline to the finish, but not Napoleon Dynamite.

I couldn't finish the movie either and I can usually find some worth in about any movie. It was horrid.

It's funny, I don't know anyone who is neutral on the movie. Everyone I know either loved it or hated it.

I think the reason people didn't like the movie was because it hit too close to home. ;)

I liked the movie because laughing at socially awkward people was one of my main hobbies in highschool/college. The movie just dialed it up to 10. My enjoyment of the movie is the only reason I tried to give the cartoon a chance. The cartoon is an even worse version of gravy-sopping than Dumb & Dumberer.

I would have been neutral if it were ~20 minutes long. The schtick is old and tiresome after about 5 minutes.

1.5 hours of awkward dork antics does not sustain a feature length flick.

Yep. Controversial makes for popularity. I knew at least 3 characters in that movie. A Napoleon-like character was my best friend in high school. I kind of protected him from the outside world beating him up while he spewed social awkwardness everywhere.

Wikipedia says it's notoriously hard to predict whether someone will love or hate the movie, based on other movie tastes. Netflix can't safely recommend it to anyone.

It's one of my favorite movies...ever. It's the subtext, people!
