It is what it is.
It's an animated extension of the movie. I think it succeeds at doing just that. I don't know what the hell people were expecting. or is it just ATOTers like to complain about friggin everything. It actually seemed to fit in after the Simpsons-Family Guy-American Dad sunday night.
It is not an extension of the movie in any way besides the characters names from what I could see. I don't feel the movie concept would translate well at all to an animated series but its not as if they tried to do that anyway. Something more along the lines of a King of the Hill style, grounded in reality universe could potential have worked and still captured some of the charm of the original movie but it was quite clear from the commercials for this that they went more looney toons than anything like that.
The show is really just an abomination of an idea. Far to late to be relevant and completely oblivious to its source material. It looks like it was written by some one who hated the movie.
