About five years ago the battery in my Civic had
died because I left the lights on overnight . I was in a
hurry to get to work on time so I ran into the house to get
my wife to give me a hand to start the car.
I told her to get into our second car, a prehistoric oversized
gas guzzler, and use it to push my car fast enough to start it.
I pointed out to her that because my car had an automatic transmission,
it needed to be pushed at least 30 MPH for it
to start. She said fine, hopped into her car and drove off.
I sat there fuming wondering what can she be doing. A minute
passed by and when I saw her in the rearview mirror coming at
me at about 40 MPH, I realized (Knowing she?s a blonde) that I should
have been A LOT clearer with my directions.
Dammit!!! U serious?!

Ok, did some surfing, found conflicting results. I tend to think that C&D tested a swiss cheese Catalina, but that would have to be 1963. Found some other sites that said it was 1965, and was a ringer tuned by Royal Bobcat.
Either way, I don't doubt that the test occurred for real. Even around 1980 C&D still listed the old Catalina as their quickest ever. Whatever, it obviously wasn't a high production model, but it is the answer to my trivia question.

How about this one: What year was the last year that a GM "sports car" or "pony car" had an engine larger than 400 CID?

You have to be the 6 million dollar man to get one going then? Okay...so if you're parked on a steep hill--steep enough to go that fast--it would bump start?
No. The engine has to be running for the torque converter to do anything. Rolling a car downhill just spins the output shaft. It isn't connected to the rest of the trans unless you have some hydraulic pressure.

Right. And if you have a trans that has both front and rear pumps, when push-starting you have hydraulic pressure. ;)

Trans Am, with the Olds 403, 1980?

JC is correct, all Powerglides have front and rear hydraulic pumps, not one of the Turbohydramatics (350 or 400) had rear pumps.
Push starting Corvairs was easy :)

Probably.

What was so unusual about the 6.6L TAs from 1979-80?

You got me then, for some reason my brain is not running on all eight cylinders this morning :p

Auto dim headlights?

or the 6 pack option on Eldorado.

Here's real toughy, who invented the intermittent wiper, then all the auto makers started using it and he brought all of them to Supreme court, sued and won ?

It was done before, I think in the 60's. Nothing like dragging 4 cylinders as you drive...
