Ok, Ive had it! UPDATE #2: problem found, how to fix?

update #2 Ok, after being suggested, i plugged in some headphones and recieved a audio message saying "cpu failed test"

this means cpu not seated right? heatsink not seated right?

Ok, update, after trying everything you guys mentioned...my original suspicions were correct...I am, in fact, a retard. 😱 Turns out im not getting power to my keyboard. Although this might not be the only problem...pretty sure it is.

1)Ive switched the kybrd jumpers already, still no.

2)Positive keyboard works(tried it on 2 other comps)

3)can't go any further into the purple plug

4)?!?!???

What else could cause my keyboard to got get power?

original post below w/spec.

Man, I am doing something majorly wrong or I have hundreds of dollars of dead pc parts. Ive switched the case/psu, cpu, memory, hard drive, video card. Everything powers up fine, get no error beeps, but it won't post. :| I have a feeling its something really ez & im just retarded. 😱 Any suggestions or see any problems with my specs?

Trying to Boot:
P4 3.0 800fsb
asus p4p800 d
hyperx pc3000
2 raptors
antec truepower 430
ati 9800np

In an attempt to get anything out of it, Ive switched out 1 at a time in no particular order:
mx440
antec 480
intel 800fsb mobo
crucial 2100
wd ide HD
p4 2.8 800fsb

😕 TIA!!

I'm thinking it's the RAM as you wanting 4 X 200 on the Hyperthread and those sticks won't get it so try and relax the timings

I can't get into the BIOS, the timings are stock.

Bare parts means you don't even need the case (set the board on a plastic antistatic baggie) and you don't need a hard drive either. Start testing from there. If, after switching ram, CPU, vid card, etc, and it's a no go, I'd say RMA the board.

Try:
Try Booting:
P4 3.0 800fsb
hyperx pc3000
intel 800fsb mobo
crucial 2100
wd ide HD
antec truepower 430
and press the delete button.
Also when you had the ATI card in did you plug in the external power? If you are not getting a Screen and no beeps then recheck the wiring.

Ya, the ati had power, but ill check. Also, with the intel mobo, there is built in vid so i pluged my lcd directly in. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, ill try a few things and see whats up.

Well, pulled everything out of the case & even popped in a 500mhz stick...no go though. 🙁 Still a blank screen. I don't have the mx440 anymore(friend brought it over and left already)...Ive been working on this off/on the whole day. 🙁

500MHz stick? What's that?

If you've tried switching everything one by one outside of the case now (integrated and radeon video, memory stick, power supply, cpu), the only thing left is the board, which you could RMA to the vendor or manufacturer.

Did you try different case? Recently my friend had the same problem, and it turned out his reset button was damaged, so the comp kept rebooting.

sounds like a dead board. and yeah, what is a 500MHz memory stick?

500mhz hyper x pc4000, looks like ill have to rma the board. Puzzling to me though is that the intra vid is on the intel mobo which is brand new...powered up once only so far. Thanks for the advice.

Id hate to have 2 dead boards, the intel is brand new. 500mhz pc4000

Right now, everything is out of the case.

my guess would be he means a 500mhz ddr chip... or PC4000

This would be my guess...

PC2100 or PC3000 arent fast enough for the 800Mhz FSB i dont think... i think you need at least PC3200. That would be one guess... other would be dead board. BUT> This is what else i would try...

I would recommend trying a PCI video card in the board instead of an agp... might sound odd... but it sometimes will work that way... so give it a shot and let us know what happens eh?

Ya, this was mentioned before, except ive put the pc3000 into a dell(800fsb) a while back and everything went fine. Ill get a pci video and see if that will help.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions & help...if you think of anything else, just blurp it out. 😉

really only other thing i can think of off hand would be to make srue all the jumper settings are correct... thats about it :/ Like i said, if you could let us know what you do to fix it or waht helped.

-tim

ps; if you get no beeps i would still guess the pci video card ;p

That is possible, I bought it used. The previous owner did a lot of ov'cl & I don' tknow what else. 😉 Ill definitly try out the vid card....worth a shot.

check your board jumpers (if any)..maybe some weird settings...check wirings and voltages....hd jumpers and connectors....

you can also try to use something like Norton Utilities etc....i once rescued a system which had similar probs (thought motherboard was dead) by booting onto a Norton Utilities rescue CD...bootet fine...reinstalled master bootblock and the system came to live again. (I didnt even get a bios message before)

Ya, ill check the jumpers. Interesting about the norton...so you couldn't see anything & no bios? Would the rescue cd be in a retail norton utilities?

Are you just getting a black screen? DVI or Analog? If you have it hooked to dvi switch it to analog. Make sure you select the proper input on the monitor ie. the exit button on my 191t switches from dvi to analog. Have you tried turning your monitor off and back on?

Ya, plugged in my lcd via analog & switched back & forth to ana 1-2. Then I said fvck it & busted out an old crt for ana only. 😉

Just finished DL the jumper section of the user guide...be back in a bit. 😀

1) reset cmos.
2) make sure you have the powersupply 4 pin molex or P4 12v adapter plugged in.
3) only use 1 stick of memory for now
4) pull all expansion cards and/or devices from the board

It doesn't post with the crt? Clear the cmos. Make sure the cmos jumper is on the right pins. Probably isn't since you tried two boards. Your PSU is set for the proper voltage right?
