Get a replacement card and I think its the law to file a police complaint in case SSC is lost.

If you file a complaint like Caesar said, you shouldn't be liable. And again, a lot of peopel have my SSN/SIN number. I mean, you give it out to employers for one. How safe do you think that information is with them?

File the complaint, get a replacement, and let that be the end of it.

Did you carry it around with you or lose it in the house somewhere? You certainly shouldnt be carrying it, that's just asking for trouble, especially if you lose it along with other identifying information, such as your DL and CC's. I lost mine recently but know it's somewhere in the house, I applied for a new one at the local SS office and it arrived in the mail in a few days.

I carry mine with me everywhere because I haven't attempted to memorize the number yet. That, and I have a habbit of not losing things.

Might be good to run a free credit report to ensure there are no suspicious activities on your record

I'm Canadian, I have a SIN card. To avoid confusion for the OP, I said SSN/SIN. :)

thanks for the update.

i was asking him how he had both a SSN and SIN.

It's not uncommon... I am a Canadian citizen, I work in the US (thus I need a SSN since I pay US taxes), therefore I have both...
