Just turned 21 last Friday. Before that, the most alcohol I had was in the form of cold medicine. I never understood why people drank. Now I get it.

It's not about getting drunk or being cool. For me, it's about coming home from a very long day, kicking off my shoes, pour a glass, put on some music and unwind.

That being said, I would like some suggestions on what I should try. So far I've had Bailey's Irish cream (local shop had the .75L for $18, not bad by the sound of it) and I really like it but I'm willing to try new things. :)

So tell me some of your choice drinks and what you like about it. (taste and all that good stuff.)

Straight tequila. Make sure you chug it though, or else it loses some of the experience.

Dude, I'm just like you used to be. I don't get why people drink other than getting drunk and being social. What are the feelings you get?

You become more relaxed, less worried, more social, your inhibitions go poof, and women get more beautiful. It doesn't effect everyone the same though; some people are grumpy drunks.

I'm actually afraid to drink any alcohol, I'm kinda scarred from my stepdad. Makes me hate it all.

If you like to drink to unwind but are somewhat of an unseasoned drinker, I would suggest trying out some red wines. Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Merlot are my favorites. Its best to find a wine store where you can ask the clerk to suggest something as a starting point, and then over time you will learn your favorites.

Personally, my favorite sipping drink is a Maker's Mark Manhattan on the rocks, but that might be a little strong for a beginner's palette.

Or if you're just starting out and you don't like the taste of most alcohol, get something like a wine cooler, or UV blue.

Beer, like any class of alcohol, has its requisite tastes, to be refined after drinking and trying many different kinds. Don't go all out on what people tell you is a "good beer", just be willing to try them all over time and decide what's right for you.

I'll drink just about any kind of beer within reason, but much more opinionated when it comes to scotch. Yum.

Lots and lots of drinks to try! Long Island Iced Tea, Martini, Train Wreck, Black Russian, Margarita, Mudslide, etc

Go to the liquor store and buy the airplane bottles of the vodka, rum, scotch, etc to try them and see what you like.

Hmm... Good question.

I Would have to say it's just because it helps settle my nerves at the end of the day. And not in the ?I'm going to forget all my problems! I HATE MY LIFE!!? way. I work at a Vet clinic and if I'm not trying to keep Cats/Dogs from trying to eat me or my coworkers, I'm helping putting them down (never a fun job. :( Some don't need to be but the owner won't hear us out. ). So it just helps me not worry about the little things in life that really don't need to be dwelt upon

Now if you are worried about becoming a alcoholic, I really don't have any good advice on that besides self control.

Dude, one time you should sit down with a fifth of Jack and attempt to kill it. You might want to experience your first fall down piss your pants drunk safely at home instead of at the nightclub after you realize you had too many of those purple drinks your friends have been feeding you while your trying to pick up some hotties.
And the next morning you'll also learn how it feels to pray to God please I swear I'll never drink again just make it stopppp blaaaaaaggg all over the side of the bed again :D

Just by judging your situation and what you're looking for, try out an Amaretto Sour. Small glass, on the rocks, half and half mixture of Disaronno and sour mix. Tastes fantastic, and is a great drink to sip on and relax. Might be a bit more pussified as far as drinks go for 21 year-old males, but it still tastes good. While you have the sour mix, try yourself a whiskey sour and see what you think.

Ahahahahaha...Unfortunately, it's quite true. I don't think I've ever known someone (that drinks) who HASN'T been through that. Several times. And still drinks. ;)

1sik, Two things about that.

1. I still (unfortunately) live at home while I finally decide what I want to go to school for, Vet or Mechanical engineering. And I come from a very religious family that would not smile upon my new found delight. :p

2. Don't know if I like the idea of that, I've had a slight hangover and didn't have fun with that so I don't want to know what a REAL hangover is like thank you very much. :)
