Ok, finally it started up and gave me one beep which means everything is fine, no ram or cpu problems or nothing. But i looked and it only detects a primary Slave, i only have my HD in it right now, don't have my dvd/cdr drive or floppy, isn't the Hard drive supposed to be the Primay Master drive though? i'm using a Asus P4s333.

It depends on what jumper you have set on the hard drive. If you are using cable select make sure the drive is at the end of the cable.

what harddrive are you using?

you can manually set the dip pin switch in the back of your harddrive... next to the ide ports...

set it to master.

yeah.. it's either the DIP switch or you have the HD plugged into the wrong connector on the IDE cable. It should be the black one on the end, not the grey one in the middle, if you want it to run as master.

Its a Seagate barracuda IV 80gig, i have it on the blue wire at the end of it, not in the middle.

edit- i meant to say i have the it "ON" the blue wire ribbon at the end of it *on the black end* the blue end is into the mobo.

again... check on the dip setting.

usually manufactures send off their harddrives with slave setting...
'cause when people upgrade their harddrive... they keep the old one... and just plug the new one in on top.
which isn't all that smart. :)

^^ Right. Besides, using separate cables for each device is easier, unless you have more than two IDE devices. Does that help? :D

I would be willing to bet there are jumpers back there...
