I'D go for A8R-MVP or wait for A8R32-MVP... or if you stay with a8n32, i'd go with a gtx card.

The A8R-MVP seems to be a great alternative choice - but it has like a million awful ratings on the newegg site - that concerns me a little. I know newegg posters are not necessarily the most well informed, but there are a bunch right after another.

I'm of two minds. Part of me thinks - well if I'm already spending $1000 on a system, might as well go for the extra $100 in order to make it the "best" and most future viable. But that $100 could also go towards other stuff...so...gr.

hmm, been thinking.

Say money isn't the issue - if I just want to make sure I've got the best board that will be a) quiet b) great OC ability and c) most future proof,

would you all agree that the A8N32-SLI Deluxe is the best board for that? I'm not really strapped for cash, so I'm inclined to just get the best and call it a day.

Thoughts?

Epox 9npa ultra, read Anandtech's review on it and it's around $100. Best nforce 4 ultra motherboard out there. No SLI, but it doesn't matter for most people. So far I love mine.

your arguments against the economical nature of the A8N32 are compelling...I hate to give up the passive - any thoughts on what the best passive alternative is? OR maybe I'll just get the DFI Ultra-d (Sorry crescent) and see if I can live with it. If not I'll try to passive cool it later.
The Mushkin Redline has awesome timings for DDR500. If you're going for quiet, don't base which board you pick off of the chipset coolers. I've owned an ASUS with a passive cooler, and now with the DFI I can't tell a difference noise wise with the chipset fan. Yeah, yeah, I know I said I was done :p, but I wanted to contribute.

well, its a gift, so I'm just going to be thankful and enjoy it.

looking more and more at the DFI...read some reviews that the magnetic bearing fan they use isn't bad at all.

But I'd like some other opinions on my earlier comment -

Lets see, it is slightly quieter, very expensive and overclocks about the same as most other boards. It is not a good value, IMO, unless you definately want SLI.

What makes a board future proof? All the 939 socket boards are equal in terms of future proofing.

If you're a fan of SLI, then thats another story.

I haven't heard someone suggest an antec around here in a long time, odd.

back to the mobo.

Basically the DFI is $125 (average), and I can get the A8n32 for about $50 more through a deal, do you all think it is the best?

thoughts on the RAM?

I'd like to order this stuff in the next 20 minutes or so

I persoanlly like the DFI board for ocing options. I have had the dfi nf2 lanparty revision 2 board, the dfi nf3 250gb and i am in the process of uprading to dfi expert. I have not had any problems at all.

The OCZ has slightly better timings and I can get it from monarch for the same price as the G.Skill right now (theres a rebate) so I think I'll go with that and just order it all from one place.

Ok, I think I've decided to go with the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe. I know it has features I'll never use, but its the best that is out right now, and I'm not too strapped for cash so I figure its worth it. Plus I got an awsome deal on it. yay for flash.

i REALLY want to thank everyone for all they have done. your time and opinions have been massively helpful and I think I'm going to get a KILLER rig as a result.

thanks a million

sounds good to me. when i order a new rig i try to get as much from one place as possible even if it costs a few bucks more for a given item.

both asus and dfi are good brands so you are ok. i currently use DFI but will prob go back to Asus next time because I dont OC anymore.

if you post your experiences/opinions on the rig im sure ppl subscribed to this thread wouldnt mind reading
