I go to a couple of clients that are still using some P100s and P120s. I was installing (remotely) an Oracle client on a machine, and it failed b/c the 800MB drive didn't have enough space for the 250MB Oracle stuff.

Actually Germy Boy, the PII was faster than the K6. It wasn't until the K7 (Athlon) that AMD overtook Intel in terms of speed. Slowest in our house is a PIII 450. Fastest is 1.3GHz T-Bird.

Not with my specs. Kicks any PII-450 out of the water with same / similar specs w/SETI and all other benchmarking tools.

<< Alright folks, if the fastest computer in your household is slower than the fastest in my household (the one I'm using now), let me know so I feel better! :)

I have a gateway with a pentium II-450 MhZ, 56k modem, Riva TNT, SB 64. Ugh. This is the best, fastest, newest computer I own. Actually, come to think of it, we finally threw away the ol' Mac, so this the ONLY computer we own.

I know I know, stop bitching johnjohn, you have a computer that gets you to AT so what else matters, right? ;)

Your PC is good enought for everything except for gaming. Heck....a PII-233 would be good enough for most people if it wasn't for games. I have a P-166 Thinkpad that I still use everyday. I run office 2000 at work on a Celeron 333 Thinkpad and it runs fine with Outlook, two Access databases, Frontapge, and a couple of instances of Internet Explorer running. The only software that actually uses the full potential of today's PC's are graphics/video programs and games. Everything else pretty much runs on any PC made in the last 3-4 years.

Mine's pretty slow... It's a Pentium 4. I'm not being sarcastic. :| We build PC's at work with Athlon XP processors and my box gets it's ass kicked time and time again. Sigh...

I was at a thrift store once, saw a computer for $5 so i bought it. This was the oldest thing i'd ever seen. It had to was at least 50 lbs. It had a 17 mhz proc. soddered into the mobo, 50 MB hdd, 512 kb of ram. I couldn't even install win 3.1 on it. It's about twice as fast as my TI-83 calculator and has a little more memory.

My sister uses an 83MHZ Pentium overdrive Dell system with 24MB of old memory and a 2GB HD, running Win98. Slow as ass.

I'm still on my 300 PII with 128 MB ram. Takes me forever to boot. The thing likes to overheat too. Well, at least I have hi-speed access.

Sorry to disappoint you, but when I used to have a Celeron 500 several years ago, it was nowhere close to the PII 450, it was exactly twice slower in all the benchmarks. And I was running it on an ASUS board with the BX chipset!

:frown: So I am slower than him. Time to upgrade.

Same here, no AGP port either, no graphics card just 4mb and the audio on the mobo. 64mb ram and a 10 gig hard drive! ohhh ya! wow, blazin fast there .... lol. And i try to play CS on it with bots, prettymuch all i can do since it lags so bad is snipe ;), but its fun on the oilrig tower as a terrorist he he he. The floppy drive is broken too and i dont have a CDRW in it. PLUS! Im on a LAN sharing a cable connection and my internet doesnt work (Im not on my computer right now, im on a 233mhz-intel-something! Egads!)

I have a PIII-450/ 512 PC100 RAM, 23+13 gigs, ATI radeon 8500 64MB, 10/100 3com card and a nice dell 1702fp here at school.

But my machine at home is:

P-166 with 32mb ram, windows 98 i think, and all generic stuff.... so bad i could barely install a cd-r (2x) into it when the cdrom broke. burns a cd in hm.... a few hours haha and crashed, but i can still play puzzle fighter on it cause its hooked up to a 23" nec monitor (old old old)

i still like it cause it brings back found memories.... btw the floppy does not work anymore and booting takes a full 5-7 mins. haha the good ole days

I've got an IBM XT that'll boot to a DOS prompt once you replace the battery with a soldering iron. Trying to find a use other than for the dusty pcb. might sell it for a buck to some budding electronics person. with a chip puller. thinking of making a table or stool out of it.

My parents fastest box is a Packard Hell P166 with 32megs ram and a 8 gig hard drive. Needless to say I've been trying to get them to upgrade for years. One of these days I'm going to break into their house, steal their old computer and swap it with my old K6-2 450 rig that has been collecting dust. I know they don't need much, but if I have to look at that computer one more time, I might drop kick it. :(
