for 3k you could get a 16" lcd, 2.8-3.0ghz p4, 1gig ram, dual 40gig hard drives, dvd/cd-rw, mp3 player, tv tuner, full keyboard with 10key and much more.

wtf are you talking about? The 17" powerbook is $3000, not the 12".

I bought the 12" because i wanted ultra portability and i love it. I paid $1500 for it all, including airport extreme. Not a bad deal. I'm still playing with everything, but so far it has been great. I only have 256MB RAM, but it runs just perfectly. Boots up quicker than my Win2k machine with 640MB RAM. Warcraft III plays very well.

edit: hey... 3k posts now :Q ... damn that was a whole lotta neffin ;):p
At this point, i prefer my pbook to my windows machine for everything. However, I suggest you get a cheaper mac and a PC. It allows the best of both worlds. I skipped the Superdrive because i realized that buying a standalone DVD burner for $150 AR is infinitely better than spending $400 on an internal notebook burner.

his last idea is a good one, and i wish that someone would've said something like that when i was buying my computer for college  ... a 12" mac laptop would be nice and light to take to class... and a shuttle barebones pc with a 15" lcd would be really nice to have in the room :)

How is the battery life and weight? I spent around $1500 on a 12" iBook because it was under 5lbs and the battery lasts for around 3 hours. If the notebook you are promoting can do that, Ill consider purchasing one.

weight is ridiclous, but what can you expect from a desktop computer that is crammed into a notebook? i personally get 2-2.5 hrs of battery life... but it all depends on what exactly i am doing.

So, its basically useless for me and anyone else that wants something portable. Sounds like there are more features to the Macs than you may have thought ;)

You could always get a pda. I'm personally waiting for a wearable display to become affordable, then I grab a teeny motherboard like a pc104 and become one with my pc. maybe I'll blanket my world in uwb radiation so I can be eternally connected to the net. :D

Ive got a PDA, but for anything requiring me to do actual work its useless. A wearable computer would be pretty neat though.

portablity isn't really a problem though, i toss it in my pack and walk to class... there are times when i wish i had a fujitsu lifebook or a sony picturebook, for portablity reasons... but when i'm walking to class... and the heat from the p4 2.8ghz is keeping my back warm... ;):D

I prefer a small laptop that I can carry easily around with me. I dont always keep it in a bag. I like to easily be able to take it out while on the train or at a diner or something. Just another perspective.

Yeah, i looked at the sagar, and if i wanted a desktop replacement, i would go with that, but for now, i think i'm gonna get the 15 inch, if they update it or the 17 inch, and i will also take the 1.33 ghz pc that i'm on now
