if you want to gain people's sympathy, maybe post a list of the symptoms of diabetes or something. I'm really not trying to be an ass, but your son looks absolutely fine in those pictures.

Here's a list:

1) He has to be constantly vigilant of his blood sugar, meaning he can get high or low in a matter of minutes, possibly lapsing into a coma. Every bit of exercise he does, including walking around the house or playing with friends, and ever bite he eats or sip he drinks has to be calculated. Even then, it's hard to stay on target.

2) His growth has likely been stunted die to the metabolic toll of diabetes

3) It hurts like hell to poke your fingers and they are easily infected

4) Some people find injections very painful. Even with micro syringes it is easy to hit a nerve and get painful swelling or bruising.

5) If he does not take care of himself (and even if he does) he is at a much higher risk for heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, impotence, and poor circulation leading to amputation.

6) He can never go out and get drunk with his friends or do careless things that other people take for granted. If he does, he could easily die. I know someone that died this way, just having a six pack.

7) Imagine having to explain this chronic idsease to your first girlfriend. It will get better with time, but it still presents a social issue as well.

Notfred, those pics are not indicative of the seriousness of type 1 or juvenile diabetes. Depending on how "brittle" or hard to control, the next pics may be of amutated feet. Or a eulogy. <No offense to the OP, I am supportive of your efforts.>

It is like having your house on fire at all times, but you can't put it out. All you can do is keep the blaze under control. Turn your back on it for a minute, and it will flare up and consume you.

Despite your problems with thread lockages and moderators and whatnot, your donations seem to be coming in plenty quickly. It's the first day, and you're 2/3 of the way to the goal you set for a walk that's happening 3 months from now.

Well, it was a modest goal - the more the better - tax deductible and to a well-recognized a nd respected organization :)

I'm sorry to hear about that. My GF has Type 1 and it's tough but since your son has a pump, which it looks like he does from pic 3, then he'll be a lot better off than someone with injections. Once you and him both get used to making corrections on the pump it gets much easier after time. One question though, why does he have the pump inserted on his arm? Is this better for small kids or something, because my GF always has it placed around her stomach or abdomen area and she tells me it's better to have it there.

he wont have the site on his tummy or his bum. Its arms and legs only.

You guys really don't know how much this means to myself and Isaiah. We both had a good hug after looking at the JDRF site.

I am debt to you all.

It's only money.

it's money to help a cause, and the money also indicates that there's a support system in place.
What I'm trying to say is that it's such a small price to pay if it in some way brings about a cure.

Wow!

ATOT is awesome. :) Gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I know that ATOT has come through for me before. I don't even know where I would be if it weren't for some very generous members here.

I'm hurting for money right now, but I still managed to donate a 10 spot. My father actually had a young cousin die due to complications related to Type I Diabetes about 30 years ago.

You should seriously raise the goal. $200 is nothing for the AT effect.

Edit: Thanks, BigJ :)
