It gets worse and worse.

Last night on the news they released information that showed BP knew how bad the leak was and downplayed the whole thing the first week , even turning off monitors of the leak when reporters came near them. The Coast Guard claims BP would not let them release the information. BP apparently wanted to hide it because the cost to them is over $24 million a day , for 1 week that is $168 million they saved in fines. If they had released the information when they had it they could have prevented a lot of the damage to the waters sooner.

Obama needs to stop being mad and do something about it..

Don't worry...I'm sure he will shed a tear while he is down there....as long as a camera is nearby to capture such a heartfelt image of course.

$5 million ad campaing by BP. Just WTF. It's actions liek these that show you how poorly run the company is. Never invest in a company liek this!

I took 30 years to make the government this toothless with regard to regulation and enforcement.. this is a GOOD THING right? Why do you insist on government involvement now?

Good! Now we need some of that oil to spread to the coast of Texas!
Hopefully this will make Americans wake the fuck up. More spills please!

BTW, when the big oil was drilling like mad, it seems like the Repugs like to say "leave them alone".
And now that they fucked big time, Repugs want to say Obama not doing enough?
Fucking morons.

<sarcasm>I thought that forcing oil companies to only drill far off-shore would prevent this.</sarcasm>

I don't think you get it... That is exactly what Obama hasn't done. He's completely failed politically with this oil spill, which is why I'm pissed at him. He should have been down there from day 1 shedding tears and scrubbing pelicans, not taking the high road and "not politicizing the spill"

Not only government intervention, government takeover of BP (see Lamar Alexander) and private property (see Michelle Bachmann).

What should they have done to fix it?

When was the first time they sent anything more down there than a camera?

Uh.. myabe they shouldn't have built it if they had no idea how to fix a leak OR

IF they were going to violate safety precaution after safety precaution then thsy should have been shutdown.. NEVER put the rights of a corporation ahead of the USA and its Citizens

Hideous answer. Multiple things had to happen to cause this, no different then most catastrophes. You adapt and learn from this, but you don't stop it.

Better not go horseback riding, you just might get thrown off.

hey numnuts,

If I ran a multibillion dollar empire that required such activities I would have off site contingency plans in place for when the shit hit the fan. They didn't and now they will fail.

I gave the guy a fair shot when he was elected. Thus far he has proven be just another failure who happens to have a D behind/in front of his name instead of an R.

I'm not calling for the government to swoop in and save the day, in fact I don't think it can and BP, or another oil company, is likely better equipped to solve the issue. However he should, at the very least as the head of our government, be bitch slapping BP on daily basis every chance he gets. He should also be firing, and possibly prosecuting, every dumbass in government who was part of the regulatory oversight process for offshore drilling and dropped the ball.
