WASHINGTON - Nobody expects to get a letter from a member of Congress that ends with an expletive.

But that's what happened when Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, R-Mo., recently corresponded with a resident of her southeast Missouri district.

The man who received the letter, Bill Jones, of Centerville, Mo., declined to comment when reached by phone at his home Wednesday.

A copy of the letter had made its way to the Missouri Democratic Party, which faxed it to the AP.

Connor said that Emerson personally signed the letter, dated Feb. 15. She included a handwritten personal message at the bottom: "PS - please forgive the delay in responding."

demand curve slopes down..
Gas use last month was 0.6% less than a year ago, the American Petroleum Institute reported, because "high fuel prices have led to decreased demand for gasoline and other refined oil products."

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said gasoline use the past four weeks was up a slight 0.8% vs. a year ago. Typical is an increase of 1.5%, and that's the growth rate assumed in many industry, analyst and government forecasts.

Cutting back just a little more could cause gasoline prices ? which average $2.801 nationwide, up 57.7 cents from last year, according to motorist organization AAA ? to drop dramatically, one veteran analyst says.

"If everyone decided to drive 3% less the next 30 days, prices would crash," says Tom Kloza, senior analyst at the Oil Price Information Service.

Can you use 3% less gas? That can probably be done by driving a bit slower. Would work better than a boycott of a exxon.

Time to go to war against China, they are hogging all the Oil

4-20-2006 China's Oil Needs Are High on U.S. Agenda

WASHINGTON ? The competition for access to oil is emerging high on the agenda for President Hu Jintao's visit to the White House this week.

President Bush has called China's growing demand for oil one reason for rising prices, and has warned Beijing against trying to "lock up" global supplies.

The administration's focus on China's quest for oil was signaled when it published a revised National Security Strategy last month, approved by Mr. Bush, that contained a pointed new entry about China.

"They are buying long-term supplies wherever they find them, including in unsavory places like Sudan, Iran and Burma, where we won't buy"

Part of the problem is world demand.

Part of the problem is Opec. Nothing can be done about that.

Part of the problem is the forced use of ethanol leading to a reduce supply at the pumps plus the higher cost of gas because ethanol costs more than gas. Worse, it reduces fuel efficency.

In fact there are too many "parts of the problem" to be able to do more than act like blind men describing an elephant.

There are, however, two good benefits.
We got rid of MTBE.
More gas tax will be collected. This is good for the government and envrionmentalists. ;)

Funny show. :Q

It is Opec and petro-future speculators, not China, like high oil price.

Bush should encourage companies to export some petro-saving technologyies to China.

This is much more practical.

Bush should encourage the US to use petro-saving technologies first. The US uses 20 million barrels per day of oil. China uses 6.5 million (and they have 4 times the number of people).

I recieved this in an Email yesterday and it may actually work.

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON, MOBIL and CITCO If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE
>>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK. let's Unite...Let's

try it......Stay away from Exxon, Mobil & Citco

I know Exxon and Mobil are the same company. Prehaps they meant BP and Chevron. But even if you do not believe in this message, you should at least boycott Citgo who is owned in part by the Veniezualin goverment and we all know what a nut Hugo Chavez is.

They're shown as separate in that email because it's an urban legend that's been passed around for years (since before they merged)

Snopes debunks "gas out" myth

You can boycott them on principle (Raymond's $400M retirement), just don't expect gas prices to come down because of it.

But even if you do not believe in this message, you should at least boycott Citgo who is owned in part by the Veniezualin goverment and we all know what a nut Hugo Chavez is.

All that will do is rearrange who sells the gas, not the supply and demand part of the problem.. If you want cheaper gas, start using less of it. Drive slower, get a more effecient vehicle and carpool a couple times a week to work. This will hve far more effect than this pointless idea.

I don't remember where I had previously read the info, but for every 10mph over 55mph that you drive, your gas consumption increases greatly..something like 10-15% per every 10mph over.. this is most likely different among various vehicles..

Were a quarter of the way to the $300 mark

Just like the resident Republicans said we would never saee $4 a gallon but yet here it is.

How do they live with themselves???

4-21-2006 Oil hits new peak at $75

LONDON - Oil rose to a new peak of $75 a barrel on Friday as investment funds snapped up crude futures and tension mounted over Iran's nuclear intentions.

"OPEC can deal with issues it can control, but ... we can't do anything about the politics in the world," Algerian Oil Minister Chakib Khelil said.

He said oil markets were well supplied and crude inventories were high

U.S. Energy Secretary Sam Bodman said on Friday he would not ask OPEC to pump more oil, saying he agrees with the cartel's assessment that the markets are well supplied.
=====================================================
There you have both the Oil Barons and Bush Regime saying there is no supply problem.

Yet the resident Republicans in here still insist there is no supply.

Odd, why do they go against their heros???

US won't ask OPEC to supply more oil.

Pretty hypocritical considering that Bush blasted Clinton during the 2000 debates and said that he would get on the phone and tell them to open up the spiggots.

How about this quote..

Bodman supports the position of OPEC ministers that oil supplies are plentiful at the moment. "They believe, and I don't have any reason to doubt them, that the oil markets are well-supplied," he said.

All run up on pure speculation....nothing more than "greedy" speculation!!!

Oil at 24 year high after inflation adjusted, closes at 75.17. per CNBC

These ethanol issues need to be ironed out, but that may take weeks according to analysts.

FYI: this is trolling.

What conjur (and some others) like to accuse me of as trolling is actually known as thread killing (which was obviously quite successful in the old gas thread).
