I've had 6 kids go through Tacoma public school and occasionally it's been a damn nightmare trying to undo the brainwashing. I once had to explain WW2 to a 5th grader after a teacher taught about the atrocities the US perpetrated against Japan. Pearl Harbor and the horrible the horrible things Japan did to POW's wasn't even discussed. When I called and talked to the principle I was told that teachers were free to teach whatever they wanted.

I offered to help my oldest kid put her kids in a private school but she's okay with it.

I thought teachers were supposed to teach what they are paid to teach? Personally I think schools should teach awareness of other cultures with no "whitewashing" of anyone's history, including our own.

I find it to be a bit rather odd that kids are taught about US atrocities against Japan, but nothing about what they did to other cultures they conquered during WWII.

I'm not really sure what your position is.
Do you want non-college level history classes to cover all angles from all sides even at the cost of being likely confusing and paralyzing to learn?
Do you think this teacher is wrong for standing up against diversity in the US?
Maybe if you clarify your stance we can have a discussion.

so we shouldn't explain how morally wrong forcible internment is solely because of someone's family history? or question the use of nuclear weapons? or any number of things throughout history (US and abroad)?

"they did bad things" doesn't in any way justify us doing bad things as well. as the saying to children goes, two wrongs don't make a right.
 
I don’t understand the concept of “ethnic studies”. Just teach actual world history from both a Western and Eastern perspective. When you teach US history, be aure to include the contributions of native americans, blacks, jews, and each successive wave of immigrants. Not sure why it needs to be a separate curriculum.
