Shorty's Official And Legally Binding Deep Space Nine Episode Guide:
(Ignore at your own peril)

Season 1. . http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106145/episodes?season=1

] Required Viewing: [

- Emissary (pilot).
Just like TNG, the pilot and finale are directly related, and necessary viewing if you want any clue as to what happens in the series. Unlike TNG, DS9 has tons of multi-episode arcs and season long arcs and arguably a 7-year arc as the things setup in the first year pay off by the last year.
You need to pay attention to Siskos relation with the religious Bajoran people and the spirits or prophets in the wormhole. Its mostly what the series is about.

- Past prologue.
Introduces Garak who (eventually) becomes one of the most important characters in the whole series. Also sets up the Bajoran Underground, which comes back again repeatedly. You need it to get a feel for Kiras character.

- A man Alone.
Sets up Obrians Wife, Keiko, as the station school teacher, and Nogs relationship with Jake, which also lasts for 7 years.

- Babel.
Just a darn good episode.

- Dax.
Establishes a lot of lore about Trills. Helps to make sense of Trill plots in later seasons.

- Battle Lines.
A somewhat important secondary character dies, which sets the stage for another character to come in and cause conflict.

- Progress.
Just a darn fine episode. Gives Kira some real depth. Insight into the Bajoran Resistance.

- The Forsaken.
Provides insight into Odo.

- Dramatis Personae.
Good episode.

- Duet.
EXCELLENT episode. Insight into Bajoran occupation by Cardassia. Gives Kira some more depth.

- In the Hands of the Prophets.
Sets up Vedek Winn, who will be an important player all thru the series into the Finale.

] Good, but not Required: [

- Captive Pursuit.

- Q-Less.

- The Passenger

- The Storyteller.
Starts the relationship between Obrian and Bashir, which becomes more important as the series progresses.

- If wishes were Horses.

] Could Be Ignored if trying enjoy the series: [

- Move Along Home

- The Nagus.
Also, any other Ferengi-centric episode is best ignored if you wish to keep from getting fed up with DS9. Trust me on this. Only hardcore fans can stomach them. Quark-centric episodes arent too bad, but the Nagus and Quarks mom and his extended family are annoying.

I missed the word "guide" above and thought you had written you're own DS9 episode and to understand it the listed episodes were required viewing.

I should go to sleep soon :$

So I made it up to In The Pale Moonlight, the most beloved, famed, deep, dark episode of Deep Space Nine.

THIS SHIT STILL FUCKING SUCKS.

Oh noes, the Sisko's decisions! The moral quandaries! The deep spritual commentary!

I DON'T GIVE A FUCK, THIS SHOW IS TERRIBLE.

I am now watching Farscape. I like it.

I wanna bang this blue woman senseless. Well, not really senseless. I mean, she's so strong and wise and calm and shit. Can't see making the sex with her being all that violent. Well, except maybe the ending, which seems like I could conceive of it being the kind of thing that might kill her partner.

See, THAT'S how you make deep characters. Alien bang-fantasies becomes much more elaborate when the characters seem to actually have real depth and not just a bunch of moral uncertainty masquerading as depth.

Glad we can agree on Farscape. It almost got royally fucked over by the network (when they promised a season 5 and then cancelled it with just a couple episodes of season 4 left to film) but they still managed to wrap it up later with a decent series-finale movie.

I enjoyed Enterprise. Watched it off and on when it was originally on UPN. Finished watching the entire series a few months ago on Netflix. Some episodes were very much meh. There were some really good episodes though.

If you like aliens and banging you might like Lexx. Personally I hated it, but I liked DS9 and Babylon 5.

Lexx is awesome! I'd rewatch it, except it's not currently streaming on anything I'm subbed to.

Trippin the Rift if you don't mind cartoons, it's kinda like Lexx, sorta, not really but yes.

I told you it wasn't very good but I suppose every Trek fan has to find that out on their own.
Farscape is ok. It didn't draw me in like other sci-fi series have but I watched it till the end.

Farscape isn't really scifi, it's a space opera. It's a drama that happens to take place in a scifi setting. It's fun though.

TNG had ...some aweful things which make it unwatchable (Riker, Geordie .. Whoopi Goldberg).

Ahem, I believe you're forgetting someone...

And that Enterprise theme was bad. But instead of Meatloaf, I got more of a John Parr vibe (St. Elmo's Fire).
